Looks like Ranunculus acris 'Multiplex' (Flore Pleno).

This is a plant I've had in all 4 of my gardens. I think I got it from my mother before 1969 most likely. She called it
double buttercup. It blooms about the time of TB Iris around
Indiana. This year I didn't see it but when I searched around all the beds I found a small patch of it right next to
ox-eye daisies which I have had around for the same long time.
It cheers me up and cheers up bouquets.

Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated. This one had been troublesome for me to properly ID over the years - it is not listed in any of my plant books. Being that I now know what it is I can safely sneak out some plants to transplant into other gardens at the proper time, which was my main concern.

This little patch has been on the place since the late 1970s. It was given to my mother by a wonderful little old church lady who absolutely loved gardening and sharing plants. It has a place in my collection of memory plant treasures.

I agree it is a cheery flower and I look forward to seeing them every year. I much prefer the underdog flower varieties with their subtle, humble beauty rather than what I consider to be the obnoxious, garish flower varieties that push a sensory overload on the viewer. But of course I will take ANY flower over concrete or asphalt. :-)
