the worse off your soil is, the more and more often. I would suggested raking it into the soil if it won't disturb plants to much, or you could put a mulch on top of the compost. so it doesn't dry out and lose bacterial numbers or have any nutrients dissipate in air.

As west says it depends on what your soil was originally. However, since you built up a Lasagna bed adding more compost most likely will not be necessary until you put it to bed for the winter.

If you have an abundant supply of compost and your question is regarding you don't want to over feed the plants. I'd say as often as you want. Compost makes nutrients available to plants slowly, compared to conventional fertilizers and will not ''burn'' your plants.

If some one was buying compost to feed the plants then Kimmsr's advice about waiting till fall would make alot of sense.

I plan on mulching w/ compost this year. I used about 40 gallons around my 15 toms 2 weeks ago. I have some more(1yd) curing and will top dress the toms again and the rest of the plants in a month or so. I probably won't have any more compost available until fall so that's all I plan on doing this season.

I agree with rj - it isn't as if you can OVER-do it. ;) I add it every couple of weeks but my beds are already well established and amended so do it weekly if you have time.

Thanks you guys! I'm so grateful to have such kind guidance this year. I feel so good knowing I can ask questions, get intelligent answers and good opinions from you all. I really think we did a good job amending the soil with compost when we started and have mulched with grass clippings to keep moisture in and soil stable. I figure the grass could stand to give up a week or two or clipping to the garden and still survive just fine. So used that. Probably will wait then until fall to add more. Don't want to just throw it around unnecessarily so I'll just let it sit and "decompose" to it's heart content. Some stuff still in there hanging around...paper pieces, peanut shells and the like. It was a joy using it though. Probably used 1/3 compost and 2/3 soil to set up the beds. They all look lovely and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again.
