People often wonder about the effect of growing something in different light conditions. Persicaria polymorpha is one of my favorite plants and I grow it in highly varying light conditions. I thought you might be interested in seeing what it looked like today in various places.
To start with - in full sun in the front garden:

In the moderate shade under a tall green ash by the patio:

It might not look like it's worth growing it in shade but see what happens in a few weeks... This is a picture of the ones under the ash taken on the July long weekend in 2006:

The ones in the picture above are in a bed behind the ones in the picture from this year. The ones in this year's picture were planted last year so this will be their first year of full bloom - in about 10 days or so.
I can't seem to find an uploaded picture of the ones under the pines and oak in bloom - but they do indeed bloom and put on a nice show. They bloom later and less prolifically than the ones in full sun and the plant, as you can see, has a looser, more open habit. But they are well worth growing in shade.
