Rotors

Are those multi-stream rotors from toro any good? Where do you get them? I have a few missing spots in the middle of my lot and adding a multi-stream could solve the problem, assuming it's a decent product. Anyone have any experiences with this?

Although we have had clients say they were relaxing to watch operate, I wouldn't recommend them. I would go with some sort of "mini rotor". The 3500 series from Rain Bird comes to mind. Likewise, there are some new mini rotor nozzles for medium sized areas which fit on a spray head body with similar precip rate as some rotors. I like the way they are thinking!
You should seek out an irrigation wholesale distributor to locate said products.

The toro adj rotor is a wast of money because they do not last. That rotor has a problem with a seal and leaks very bad after a short time of use. Just stick with hunter pgp and change nozzles to get the water you need.

If the water is coming from the seam between the nozzle head that turns and the riser that remains stationary, you will need to replace the head, in my opinion. Purchase a new head and just unscrew the cap and rotor assembly from the new one and the one in the ground and swap them out; as the sprinkler body in the ground will be fine for years to come. This is much quicker and less time consuming than replacing the entire sprinkler.

Char, Check the company literature for both heads. It should tell you the throw distance for a particular pressure. This is a description of the coverage. for each head as well as the flow rate for that pressure. Buy a cheap pressure gauge at any Big Box or hardware store and find out your operating pressure(while system is running)off your system hose bib. You then will know the facts about what you are up against. JMHO Aloha

Sae, Visit the Rainbird site for specs and troubleshooting. You also can call Rainbird with questions. Yes your pressure is high (should be 60 psi at most). Over the highest rated pressure in the manual but it should not be a cause for not popping up. Also you may look at the nozzle size you are using (flow rate). Is 85 psi the pressure in your house as well.? Thanks Dave, Yes, I figured that the area to be covered would have much to do with it, but I have been successfully using small Hunter rotors in relatively small areas that could be supplied by sprays. I assume that the rotors have to stay on (watering) much longer and use less water/time unit because they are only watering a narrow band at any given moment. True??? But, say you are trying to water a 12' diameter, which would provide the more even watering from the riser to the periphery of the 12' circle? And be the more maintenance free?
