John Deere LX172 battery light flickers

I have a LX172 that the battery light flickers on and after after the mower is ran for a while. It does not flicker until I use the mower for 30 minutes to an hour. Could the rectifier be overcharging the battery. I have instaled a new battery but it did it with the old battery also. I have removed the harness from the rectifier which was corroded badly and cleaned both ends with contact cleaner. I had the fusable link to blow that was in the red wire that ran from the rectifier to the positive battery post. I replaced this with a fuse holder with a blade type 15amp fuse. Does this seem to be a rectifier problem or could it be a problem with the stator. Any help is appreciated.
