Help! My irrigation system is pulsing / resonating

I hooked up a Rain Bird adjustable pressure regulator to the irrigation system for my front yard. Without it, the incoming water pressure is about 90 PSI and is blowing the tops off my pop-up sprinklers. I set the pressure regulator to about 40 PSI, and when I turned on the system, the water started to pulse in a resonating manner. If I backed-off the pressure regulator to 60 PSI, the resonance subsided. Granted, 60psi is better than 90psi, but it's not he target I want. How do I fix this? I have a nearly identical setup for my backyard, and it doesn't resonate regardless of what psi I set the pressure regulator to.
