Only a couple maybe possibly. If you're lucky, maybe silver dollar or Omeo gum, but don't get your hopes up, esp in the humidity. Giver 'er a whirl if you can get one cheap.

what abought in a pot and keep it small and bring it for the winter?? is it a low light tree?? my wife and i hade one in florida that she planted and got abought 10 foot tall..im not sure how she planted it but i think she just took a cliping and just stuck it in the ground??i whould ask her shes at work..

Needs strong light from all sides and seldom grown from cuttings. If you were to have a bright, cool greenhouse you could probably manage one for a time as a tub specimen that is cut back periodically, to keep it small and bushy.

Needs to be a kind that can also take the summer climate there, as mentioned.

There is a eucalyptus grower in VA who claims a couple can survive in Z7. I've personally seen a silver dollar gum get snowed on in N CA and only lose several leaves and look perky in the spring. Now, whether they will go in that humidity and near the coast and with serious protection and an overhang and south wall, give it a whirl if you can get one cheap.

Should you count on it thriving? No. But it would be a fun experiment if you can give it the right place and tons of attention and spend some money to overwinter it.

We have some growing here in Knoxville (USDA 6b / reality about 7b) that have done well for quite a few years. But, like Dan said, I don't know about humidity, etc there in Boston. If it's possible, I'd think some type of microclimate would be necessary.

Gum trees that have managed to survive the long haul even here in USDA 8 are few and far between.

And often have trunk damage or other scars due to cold. Including one 80' tall in a friend's garden - if you look at the trunk near eye level it appears to have been cracked a bit by cold.

One local planting of spinning gum was even seeding into the garden beds on the site - when it was taken out by the 1990 winter.

Another specimen of the same species on an island west of Seattle is claimed to date from the 1950s. I have not seen it or its condition, but suspect it to be partly derelict due to cold damage - the dimensions given for it sounded small.
