Guesses: if it's not Dr. Huey then it may be 'Eutin', which is an old-timey (1940) pass along rose and an excellent performer, or 'Louis Philippe', (China, 1834), also an excellent performer.

'Dr. Huey' blooms once a year, in spring, and is root stock for grafted roses. 'Eutin' repeats well and has no or very little fragrance. 'Louise Phillippe' repeats well has quite a good sweet fragrance.

How large are the blooms? Is there repeat bloom? Fragrance? Rose looks happy and healthy!

After looking at the pictures, I'm pretty sure it's Eutin. I really have never paid attention to whether it reblooms, but it has almost no fragrance. The color is very similar to a Knockout rose, that almost glowing cherry red. It's very close to my side of the fence, so I might have to reach over and cut me a piece and try to root it.

I'm chiming in for Eutin (circa 1940). It looks like you're gardening in the state next door to my origins. When I lived in TX, I spotted Eutin in many older gardens. It is truly as tough as you describe and the flowers and bush form in your photo look to be dead ringers for this great rose which can still be purchased from the Antique Rose Emporium.

Oh, and here's a suggestion to check out for rooting. There was a thread on the Roses Propagation Forum titled "how do you get rose cuttings to root?" (All lowercase letters in the title.) jrmakins in east TX describes a technique used by rustlers in the area. It's worth a shot, I think. In PDX, I simply pot cuttings in coolish moist soil in partial shade and about 50% take. My TX grandmother used the mayonnaise jar method which is similar to the coke bottle method on the posting. She was pretty darn successful. Good luck!

There are several Eutins in the south, all being called Eutin by their growers, but different in several ways.

Yours looks to me to be a lot like a Eutin that a friend has from Alabama. His is planted near drainage (so lots of water) and he fertilizes it well. Sprays on his can have thirty or forty blooms.
