Excell Pressure Washer

I have been looking for a decent pressure washer for cleaning my muddy ATV. Everybody seems to say that the electric ones are not very good. I started researching these, and figured that the Northern Tools Honda motor coupled with a Comet AXD pump would be the best bet.

The other day I was at the local HD, and they had several Excell washers that were "reconditioned". All had shown signs of use along with an electro pencil date inscribed in the red frame with yellow spray paint over them. There was one that caught my eye, and it did not have the yellow paint on the frame. It also still had the foam tape wrapped around the frame.

Closer inspection also revealed that the engine was nver fired up, exhaust looked new, opened the gas tank and there was no smell of gas. Basically a brand new machine sitting there with a reconditioned price!

It was the 2800 model, and it also had the FAIP pump, made in Italy and it is not one of the maintenance free types shrouded in black plastic. They had $240 on it, and I figured that since it was over $500 new why not take the chance. I figured that if I could get 2-3 years out of it and the pump dies I can then buy a better pump and still be ahead of the game.

Does anybody know anything about these FAIP pumps? Did I do OK on this or is Excell a junk machine?

Heck yea you did OK, I'd take that chance twice. Two or 3 years then change the pump sounds like a plan to me.

Don't know anything about the pump mfg but a recent quest of mine enlightened me to these 3 opinions I keep in mind -
1)All manufacturers make a broad range of quality so saying X company is better than Y company is not so true.
2)Bolting on a new pump is only slightly more difficult than an oil change. No need to stay with the same brand of pump as the engine mounting bolt paterns are standard.
3)The pump most likly will be your weak link.

if you need a new pump go to spraymart the best prices in town. that where i buy all my pumps

I messed with one of those, a gift from somebody, in the trash, but never got pressure up, so now, it has been waiting for 2 years for me to come get it out of the trash dump! I know, not much help. Folks have complained about that problem, but i never got one to work again.

I've got an Excell also and it's a POS. It takes a lot of time (a min. or two) to build up pressure before I can spray. My Honda is really nice, builds pressure immediately and works great. Once the Excell has pressure though, it doesn't lose it - I'm not sure why yours does.

Hey thanks guys for all the info on lubing the uploader valve.I have had the same problem for years on my Karcher /Costco pressure washer.Once again I started it up and had no pressure,. I followed the instructions to lube and reinstall the valve and voila it worked great and I used my machine all afternoon.This was after being told that it was a piece of junk and should be replaced by still another small motor repair shop.

Pumps on many of the entry level washers are not repairable, parts plus labor is more than a replacement. The no start is likely the result of stale gas. The fuel system probably needs a thorough cleaning. Disconnect the fuel hose and drain the tank then remove the drain screw from the carb bowl (the one at the side). You should be using a fuel stabilizer if you are storing it for long periods of time.If you need a pump and a tuneup, go for a new unit.

I have a powerwasher with the same pump as yours. its 2600psi with a Honda Gc.So Far so good, it fires up and works well

Do you know what that black pastic cylinder that is sticking up from the body of the pump is for? I cant find anything about it in the manual.
Where did you find info about the pump? mine has no name plate ore info on it.
