Witch Hazels Blooming

Up here in Mid-Michigan, the Witch Hazels have popped open today. This is both my Diane orange, and the spring blooming, yellow one.

I have been looking at them daily, hoping for flowers in the snow. Yet they stayed TIGHT shut until today. We have had lots of sun in the last couple weeks, even though the warm days came and went. Back to colder again today, 37F, pouring rain.

Just some good news for other flower watchers, as we are now at the correct end of winter.

Silly birds have been returning, singing real songs. Not sure what they are eating, no plants are growing. No Red-Winged Blackbirds, the most reliable spring indicator. Darned Robins ALWAYS bring terrible weather. Even the worms are not up high enough yet, to be found in this wet dirt.
