Most irrigation timers run on 24 Volts AC and use what's called a TRIAC to switch the AC power to the valve solenoid. Triacs are semiconductors and are sensitive to above-normal volages so any voltage "surge" like lightning or incoming power can damage them. And they usually fail "ON". This controller may be able to be repaired and TRIACS for that application are cheap. But it's probably more trouble than it's worth. For more information send an e-mail to: pumpsys@embarqmail.com

Hi Toni, Try to answer the questions as best you can. Try to describe your system physically from well to sprinklers including uphill and down hill distances to fittings. The solenoid is a little fat black cylinder on top of the valve housing that has either two black or white same colored wires(can you see wires coming out of the top side?). It could be construed as a knob. If you turn it you are screwing it off but the wires have to be disconnected first to take it off. Turning the solenoid enough should turn on the sprinklers though. Part of the troubleshooting is to check if water is getting to the valve and then making sure the valve is operating properly from the controller (describe your timer/controller, brand, dial type, digital etc.). The water coming from the solenoid hole when the solenoid is removed is normal, it is part of how the solenoid actuates the valve. there could be some debris obstructing the diaphrams proper seating. This would be consistent with your hearing some water flowing even with the flow-control fully closed. You (or an irrigation professional) should have a look inside that valve and see whats going on, should be simple enough to fix judging by your description.

I am planning to energize a solenoid valve also from the Jandy RS. IÂm waiting for the necessary cable to do this, but was told that the JVA sockets can be used to energize 24 VAC solenoid valves. If you have any JVA sockets not in use, simply assign that JVA to the auxiliary that you desire and that JVA socket will energize or de-energize when the auxiliary is selected. These JVA sockets output 24 VAC on 2 different legs, one leg normally energized and the other leg normally de-energized. Just be careful to use the right cable with the appropriate connector when connecting to the JVA socketÂ.the socket is small and if any of the pins are shorted, damage may result to the Jandy controller. Jandy sells JVA cables in different lengths and that is what IÂm planning to use for connection between the Jandy RS and the solenoid valve. Hope this helps.
