What can I do with this mess?
Comments (5)The planter box is 14 ft. long, about 2 ft wide and about 2 ft. deep. It has drain holes. I've never totally emptied it, but it's mostly potting soil. It's on the north side of the house. Being next to the house may have kept that spot warm, though. I'm also the world's worst person to fertilize, so it's probably not that. I don't plan on putting hosta back in that spot anyway. I'll go back to annuals there and keep my hosta in pots. Both begonias and impatients do well there and it looks nice. I thought something that came back would be nice in that spot, but obviously, hosta isn't the right choice. Leaflover, that's a lovely plant. Mine did not look anywhere near that nice. I usually have really nice plants in pots. Maybe these will work out, too. Thanks for the info. bkay...See Morewhat do I do with this space? *picture*
Comments (10)I'd use at least part of the space to build storage like a pull out pantry and set it on long drawer slides. Or a couple of them stacked. Between my toilet and my vanity cabinets I built a dividing cabinet. The dividing cabinet carcass is about 48" tall, maybe 12" wide, and about 30" deep. That cabinet carcass holds a small pullout drawer up top and a larger pull out "pantry" in the lower portion. The lower pullout pantry is on 28" slides and it's divided in two with a vertical partition, and on each side of the vertical partition I have a few shelves. When the pantry is pulled out one half faces the sink vanity and the other half faces the toilet. The part that faces the sink is used by my wife almost like a medicine cabinet. The shelves are only about 4" deep, so it suits that purpose just fine. The shelves that face the toilet are deeper, about 5", deep enough to hold rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc. Since you have a 45-degree wall to the left that would hinder access, I'd just make a unit that opens to the right. You could get 10" deep shelves for decent storage. I'd say to rip and replace the walls, but I see the shower valve is on that wall and you already have a niche in the shower on the other wall. Regardless, be careful with the plumbing since it's a wet wall. The room on the left is laundry? Can you access any of the space from the laundry room for wall storage on the upper parts of the wall? Use the lower part of the cavern for a pullout pantry accessible from the bathroom, use the upper part as in-between stud storage accessible from the laundry room....See MoreBrand new bluestone patio is a mess. What can I do?
Comments (0)Contractor just finished our patio and it looks like crap. We paid them to rip out existing concrete patio, put in new layers underneath and put in a 10'x30' bluestone patio. See images. The grout work is so sloppy, its stained and filthy, the color of the stone is way lighter than it should be and overall it just looks awful in my opinion. These pictures are taken the day after they finished, before any use. The only thing I have done is sweep with a pushbroom (which did very little to help the appearance). What are my options? Can I hire someone to come in and fix? Can it be cleaned or refinished? Can I demand this guy do it over (though do I even want him to)? Thanks for any help!...See MoreCan't believe this mess. Comments (15)@RES2, The OP indicated that their closing is December 17. That doesn't sound like a custom home being built on the OP's property to me. Rather, it sounds like a spec home or production-built home that may be being built with some level of client personalization. If the home is the property of the builder and the fix is being implemented at the builder's expense, I don't see an obligation on the builder's part to check with the buyer as to whether or how to fix a problem. Time is of the essence here and the builder appears to be doing their level best to deliver a good home on time....See MoreCarol love_the_yard (Zone 9A Jacksonville, FL)
