So did I just kill my Elizabeth Taylor?

Well I have an Elizabeth Taylor rose that is 5 years old. Unlike my other roses I have just let it grow without any major pruning the last 5 years. In that time it has largely done its best impersonation of a climber, reaching the height of 8.5 ft with its primary cane. It has another cane that grows kind of at and angel from the base as well. I have been content to let it grow in this manner because it has largely still bloomed well. This year it really hasn't bloomed or leafed out much so I had decided to take a chance on pruning it heavy late. So this weekend I pruned it back hard, leaving a little cane with some buds coming off one of the old canes and more or less removing the others. The massive 8.5 ft cane was a good 3 inches or so in diameter and I actually had to use my pole saw to cut it. I have had success rejuvenating other roses by pruning them hard, but have never taken one down quite so much. I am confident it will come back, but a part of me is worried.
