Your right, there's not many around yet. I've got quite a few in the compost bin but darned few in the yard and garden. Still a bit cool around here.

I have lots. Ran out of fish food for my oscars and green severum, so I went and turned over some leaves in the garden.

The oscars were more than happy at their makeshift meal.

When it gets warmer- I have a feeling that It'll be hard to keep up with the worms. Last year they ate all but a tiny bit of my leaf mulch on the surface. I'm not complaining though- it was deep worm castings.

I have a fair amount of earthworms. They seem to be pretty active already, but I do have raised beds so maybe it's warmer for them.

Mine seem about the same as normal, could be a little low on them but I see worms all the time so I think it is fine. I also have mostly raised beds.

The presence of earthworms depends on soil temperature, moisture level, and level of organic matter. One bed that is in the process of renovation does not seem to have any soil life even though the soil all around has lots of worm castings, but it is dry and needs much more organic matter which I can supply but the wild turkeys may not leave in there.

Severe drought the past two years, here where I live really took it's toll on the worm population, but they are making a strong comeback. After a good rain I see evidence of them all over the yard and garden.

The big earth worms like {{gwi:285343}} can burrow deep to stay a bit moist and survive. The red wigglers can't, so consequently there are less of them around right now. We have had some good rains this spring, most of the area lakes are full so I am hoping that eggs or cocoons that they left will allow a resurgence of them.

They do love the organic matter in and on the soil, so I have been setting the table for them by spreading about a two inch layer of this {{gwi:56492}} ":^) as {{gwi:56494}} in my garden. I have lots of shredded oak leaves in reserve to follow up with a two to four inch layer to keep down weeds and conserve moisture and to keep the soil temps more level.

As Pablo mentioned above, by late summer / early fall, most all the leaves will have broken down or have been consumed by the worms, leaving nothing in the way of planting my fall cover crop of greens.

Rich Manure compost- I wondered what happened to him :)

Well actually, that was a combination of things. I combined what was left of this load of excellent, prime {{gwi:271664}} with my excellent {{gwi:285344}} which I made with many diverse ingredients, so I took the liberty of a little play on words there. It is rich and does contain real manure. ":^)

Geez, I don't really know what to expect here but I seem to have tons of worms. I picked up a welcome mat that had been sitting on the grass all winter and the underside was covered with worms. When we dug for the garden every shovel full would have 3 or 4 of 'em. I haven't turned my compost since it warmed up so I don't really know...
