I would say check 'Altissimo' or 'Fourth Of July', HOWEVER, 20" wide bed is really narrow! what about something other than a rose, say maybe a white potato vine Solanum jasmanoides? West facing is going to be too hot for Star Jasmine...and 20" wide for 'Home Run'? Well...that's going to be tight.

No. Home Run is a shrub in the Knockout genre. To my knowledge, there are as yet no climbing shrubs.

Yeah I'm really struggling with what the right plant for the area is. Its a long narrow bed to be sure. The bed runs the length of my four car garage wall which is located near my pool so I want something to kinda take up some of the wall space, not get too wide, flower, and preferably smell nice and take the afternoon Texas sun. What on Earth would that be?

My neighbor planted some roses in a space about that wide next to her house (facing south). I was dubious, but her roses have been thriving there for a number of years. In her case, she selected grandifloras in various colors--the ones that are vertical (not bushy like floribundas) and about 5-6 ft tall. I believe one of them was Queen Elizabeth. Perhaps Gold Medal would work there also? (Certainly not Earth Song which is listed as a grandiflora but grows more like a bushy shrub.)

Perhaps some clematis for the trellises? They don't take up much space, but you'd need to make sure the roots were well-mulched or otherwise shaded to keep them cooler. Otherwise, clems like sun.

Or how about a solid row of canna? Even when not in bloom, canna are attractive with those big leaves.

Whatever you choose, think vertical-growing, not bushy.

By the way, roses on the west side of a garage (I have that also) will tend to lean out towards the west to soak up more sun. I have to periodically put in supports that push them back into a more upright position. Other than that, I like my roses there--but I have about 3 ft. width to play with.
