Hybrid Musks and cold damage

According to everything I have read Hybrid Musks are very cold hardy-to Zone 4 in most cases if you believe Botannica-Ok I dont believe Botannica but I am zone 7. We had early(last November)sudden exceptionaly cold weather(down to 4 degrees) for my area. I am assuming that is what did the damage. I would have thought a Hybrid Musk could take that kind of cold. I have several HM's that froze almost to the ground. I have space on top my hill where the three HM's there suffered only minimal damage-its about 5 degrees warmer up here. Should I be rethinking my placement? What are other peoples experience with this class?
