It appears that mechanical infection is difficult. The cleaning your pruning shears warning appears to be just a precaution. i.e. I am not aware of anyone actually spreading the RRV by pruning shears . This 2017-03 European report states: "RRV can also be transmitted by grafting, and possibly by mechanical means (e.g. on contaminated pruning tools).
