In our zone, it may be a once-bloomer. I don't like those in front and stick them in the back. The link says it blooms in the spring then blooms again in the fall, but might be just in the south. Do you know if it hardy in Z5? Maybe your mother can tell you more about it. It sounds like it is a robust climber in the south.

There is an interesting story about that rose surviving Katrina and the heavy demand for plants in NO nurseries. Also a short blurb about the history of the rose which is always interesting.

My mom bought it because of the story, we really don't know how well it will survive the winter in zone 5.

Interesting point about the once-bloomer, thank you, I wouldn't have known that.

I think I'll send it more towards the garage and let it climb the stone wall.

I'll keep the prime corner for something like a 'Koningin von Danemark', if I can fine one.

I couldn't find much on the web about it. helpmefind doesn't have it, has one called Peggy M. but no helpful info. It would be perfect scrambling over your wall.

Unless you can get more information, I guess I'd protect it in winter as much as possible, but if it gets very big, that would be difficult, would hate to have to cut it back.

Yes, it was really nice of her, and so typical of my mom.

She knew I was thinking of planting an old rose garden in our new house. She loves roses, and we spent a good deal of time talking about them.

I'm going to plant them today, on Mother's day, along a sunny side fence. I hope they'll do well up here.
