Well Jack, there is that possibility...guess I'll have to weigh the pros and cons ;)

But since today is wet and drizzling here...the odds are up that a ladder accident could occur, so I'll probably wait til later and then see what I can do....

I'm just really ready for it to be done...and I fear that even when it's done...it wont be done....

I plan to put a raised bed planter all around the GH and have a gazillion bulbs I've collected to put out there...but I cant do anything til it's up!!!

it's like a dream....maybe someday I'll open my eyes and it will be there and DONE....ahhh what a sweet dream that will be

Don't you have any male or even female relatives to help you with this GH? How about a girlfriend to help?

Greenhouser, I do not have any friends here :( I moved here, got married and really have not met anyone that I hang out with (like I had in San Diego)...as far as family...IF anyone in my family (mom/dad etc) lived nearby, they would definitely help me...my mom especially....I have in-laws only here, and so far I have not gotten as far as begging for help...but I have made numerous comments about the troubles with finding someone to help (who I'm paying) and I really am yet to get any kind of offers from them to help...but they all work (and work overtime) so their time off is probably sacred to them...My DH is not at all interested in helping, If I made him, he might, but generally speaking he probably thinks my GH is a waste of time and money...and he is not a fix it kind of guy...he's the intellectual in the family, I'm the one with dirt under my nails ;)

So no, there really isn't anyone to help...hence my previous attempts to hire people.

It's been raining here all day, so I never even got outside today...maybe I'll just try to do something tomorrow or next week...I guess I'm really selling myself short with this project...I can tell you about a million "impossible to do solo" projects that I have done completely by myself...even when I didn't really know what I was doing...somehow, it always seemed to work out....I just need to get my confidence up and just DO IT...or at least do as much as I can...

I'm originally from NY and know how many southerners are. They're not into volunteering their precious time to help someone not a (genetic) family member. That goes for those that aren't working and those who are retired.

greenhouser, I'd have to say I agree...the people most likely to actually even come close to helping (retired neighbor from Boston)...but that's ok...I've given my DH the ultimatum today...IF the HM has not called me by Friday to reschedule...then DH and B.I.L. (after DH asks him, not me asking) will do it.

Now girls you all are not trying to tell me that the people in NYC are more friendly than us good old southern boys and girls. I recall an offer from one Southern Gentleman to drive down there and put the damn thing up for you. Several months ago my van died on the way back home. It was dark and it was cold and I was afoot and did not know more than 10 people in the county and did not have a cell phone. The first car that came along BACKED UP TO SEE IF I WAS OK. AND then took me home and I WAS NOT ON THEIR ROUTE EITHER.

The people here in UpCountry SC are the most friendly persons I have ever encountered.

I have personally done the same thing on four occasions, just to repay the kindness shown to me.

Do you have the proper attitute? Are you friendly with your neighbors? OR

Do you run on about "How we did things back up North"?

If it is so great UP THERE then please tell me why so many of you are moving S0UTH.

You live UP THERE most of your lives and pay your taxes UP THERE. and then come down here to TRY AND EDUCATE us on how we should be doing this. AND ALSO drive the price of land and homes up and make it difficult for the locals to remain in the market.

Step back and do an honest look at yourselves.

First I can't speak for SC as I don't and never did live there. Also, the Carolinas are quite popular as a place to retire for Yankees. You have a large population of them there.

I didn't move here by choice. I was ingaged to marry a man who was transferred here. Like a fool I allowed him to talk me into moving here.

No one tells them how things were done back home unless they ask and few have. All they're interested in is what church you go to and invite you to their church.

Maybe southerners should have an attitude adjustment and stop living in the past of cliques and clans and make some friends outside their small circle of friends and family. ;)

NYers will almost always lend a helping hand to someone, especially neighbors and friends, even if they're not close friends. Most of the time they'll offer before you even get to ask........

Now Jack....I certainly did not forget your most kind and generous offer, to do just that...drive here and help me...I was of course referring to those in my immediate vicinity (primarily, my FAMILY in law) not that my in laws are not swell folks...I actually do like them very much...but I do not tend to be on the list for their help...I guess they assume the logical, that I can afford to hire someone to help and that I dont really need their help...but regardles...my reference to them not being eager to volunteer their time probably has nothing to do at all with them being southerners....just busy people who coincidentally live in the south...and are southerners....

I think the NO/SO thing has been done...so no need to get it rolling again....PEACE now please....

But unfortunately truthful. You may live somewhere in the south things are different. I can only speak for the part of the south where I live and I do. Every friend I had here fled this area as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Most moved to other places or returned to their home state. Why? Because they never felt welcome. They didn't fit in. They never made real true friends. They always felt isolated. The only place they were ever invited was to someone's church, never a BBQ or shopping trip etc. So how do you expect us to feel? Why would we want to stay here? If you are not like other southerners I commend you for your modernization and willingness to leave tradition behind.
