My rose order from Northland Rosarium....beautiful :)

I went out to Northland Rosarium to pick up my order on Saturday. They are beautiful! The plants are much bigger than I thought they would be (after ordering bands from another nursery last year) and some are even blooming :)

My Darlow's Enigma almost didn't fit into the back of my Blazer (LOL) One Indigo is blooming (wonderful fragrance) and my mom's Chapeau de Napoleon has so many blooms, it's almost top heavy. Celsiana is budding out and so are the Snow Pavements. The two Veilchenblau that were almost too small to bring home (according to the nursery) were at least as big as the bands I got from the other nursery last year.

I spent all Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday getting everything planted. The only down side...since some are blooming, I've got to go buy more lavender and herbs to hide them from the deer.

I'm so happy for you. I know how thrilled I'd be under similar circumstances. It's especially wonderful when the roses already have buds or blooms. This sounds like a wonderful company.

Nah, no spam blocker on my personal email, only on my work email. I know that they've been having lots of events up there because I had been getting the newsletter in my email. I imagine Northland's been pretty busy, and if so, I'm happy. I prefer all of our suppliers to be busy because hopefully that means volume & sales are up, and they'll be around for many more years to come.

I'm in California and it was slightly cheaper to order from Northland Rosarium, but their shipping charge is for two plants, even if you order just one (so I ordered two). If I want just one plant, Heirloom Roses is slightly less $. Good to hear you received nice plants. I won't get mine until the fall, as I requested. I'm really looking forward to growing Quick Silver. What did you get Jane?

It may not look like Dick Clark, but I think it is DC. The leaves are spot on, being very glossy and medium green. Dick Clark is photosensitive, meaning it gets its color from light exposure, so if those blooms opened while in the dark, they would be very light in color. The sunlight is what gives DC its deep red hue. If you put it outside for a day or two they will start to turn deep red and you'll see its the right rose. :) Also, be sure to remove the news paper (you'll find some soil under there, not much however) and pot them up in a larger pot. I would not put them directly in the ground like that, they are too small to fend for themselves in my opinion and can use some babying until they get stronger.

Beth I had Kiss Me and have been searching for it for like 4 years. I just love this rose and had originally planted it for my dog Rosie so was pretty happy to find it again at Northland. It blooms constantly and has a nice fragrance and nice shape to the shrub. My husband even commented that "that rose has been blooming all summer" which is like a sterling endorsement lol. I have Autumn Sunset but it was a band last year so too early to say but there are some nice reviews of it here. I have Soul Sister coming from Chamblees, couldn't pass it up! Kiss Me

It's funny, because I had mapped out where I was going to put each rose in the garden...but when I got them home, I ended up changing it all around. (LOL)

Since they were much bigger than I expected, I didn't want to plant them and then move them in a month. (Some of them were going to go in my kitchen garden, but I'm still working on it.) Instead, I put most of them in the front garden and the fairy garden and I'll put the gallicas in the kitchen garden...I have more roses coming next month from Rogue Valley Roses. I apparently had too much time on my hands this winter, but I'm so glad to get all my roses this year :)

I wish I could have ordered from Carol at Northland this year but she didn't have what I was looking for... tons of others that I want but not what I needed for this year. I ordered from her for the last 2 years and was amazed every time I opened a box... most had buds, some had blooms, and all were at least 2' tall and healthy as could be. I had to keep saying to myself, "These are bands..." :)

It set me up for real disappointment this year when I ordered from someone else. All of the plants I ordered arrived well packaged and healthy, but as puny as could be. I will have these plants in pots for at lest 2 years before they go into the ground. I guess I shouldn't be disappointed, that's how I always expected bands to be, it's just that now that I've had Carol's bands... there's no comparison.

I am not surprised. Northland sent me very nice size, healthy bands. Very good nursery.

I received my roses from Northland Rosarium also this past week. It was my first order from them and I was thrilled to get such beautiful, huge plants. I don't know why I have never ordered from them before as they are probably the closest supplier to me. I also got top notch plants from High Country Roses and Chamblees this year, but Northland came in No 1 this year.

Yep, when it comes to band-size plants, Northland is numero uno in my book.
