The flowers of Creeping Jenny are not its main attraction. Although they are pretty they are only about 3/4 inch across and are low down, so hard to appreciate from a standing position. The golden leaved from is grown for its foliage, not its flowers, although it should have some. However, since the flowers are yellow and the leaves are a similar colour, the flowers are even less important than in the green leaved form. It was correctly labelled Lysimachia nummularia but if yours is chartreuse/yellow then the picture was wrong. It is a spreading ground cover for shady damp places but I would not call it invasive. I think the problem is mainly that you were under a misapprehension when you bought it, not that there is anything wrong with the plant which sounds as if it is doing exactly what it should. The link shows your form flowering but also shows that the flowers are almost invisible being the same colour as the foliage.

Depends on what you consider "invasive". I planted 3 small (2 1/2") plants last year around a Japanese maple, and now the entire area (5' circle) is covered. I just pull it out by the handfulls to keep it in check. Keeping it away from the lawn is important. But it doesn't self seed or jump around.

Mine has flowered, but I don't consider the flowers to be remarkable. I grow it as a groundcover.

My golden creeping jenny is just now coming into bloom in my zone 5 garden. Perhaps yours would, could, or did, bloom earlier in the year in a warm zone 7 garden? Next season it may very well bloom for you at whatever time is appropriate for your area.

BTW, I don't find the golden variety to be invasive or even a big spreader along the start of my stone pathway leading to the lower garden from the edge of my concrete patio. This area is in full sun (and I don't mean the six hours needed for full sun plants, but all day long). The soil is hard packed heavy clay (not good garden loam), on a slope, and fairly dry. In this location my golden creeping jenny is very yellow, but easily controlled. This patch of GCJ is at least 5 years old and has caused me no problems whatsoever.

GCJ also makes it very easy to see where the path starts. This kind of highlighting another plant, or object, or place, is I think, a good usage for golden jenny. You don't need much of it to get this effect. I also use a dwarf variety (very dwarf) of Lady's mantle in the center of the jenny on each side of the pathway. It's very dark green foliage (much darker than the more common A. mollis) contrasts well against the jenny, as does the somewhat lighter green of the grass right up next to the GCJ.

A small piece of GCJ moved by accident along with another plant to a wetter and shadier part of the garden has grown much more rapidly, needs to be watched carefully, and is more chartreuse in color.

Leslie, thanks so much for all that info. You may be right. It may have had already flowered prior to being sold at HD because I had the same experience with my Speedwell Georgia Blue not flowering either (it did have a few flowers when I bought it) and bought them at the same time from the same 'groundcover' area. So maybe I'm just a day late and dollar short....ha ha.

Good to know all the other info since I'm not really pleased where I put it. No one can see it and I only put it there since it said part shade. Maybe I'll snip off some and try rooting it and put it in various places to test out where it's happiest. I DO love the color and could use that in areas that are more visible.

I have it in 2 locations, under the Japanese Maple and near a hydrangea. Under the JM it gets a little early morning sun, then all day shade, then a little very late sun (the garden is mostly hosta). Very good soil. It grows well there and looks lush. The other locations, near the hydrangea, it get much more sun and it is already scorched, not as lush and it hasn't flowered that I noticed. Mostly shade seems to make it happy.

Your first location is almost like mine. Early AM sun then all day shade. And it seems to be very happy there. It's just a shame it's stuck away on in the "side-of-the-house" garden (just a couple feet along side edged with timber) where I don't ever really see it. It's an odd location that I tend to neglect and nothing much likes to grow there, so it's nice to see this one happy !! And like you, this is the area where hostas do well.

I swear, if I ever get to buy this house, I'm building steps on THAT end of the porch, TOO !! As it stands, my front door is on that end and porch runs length of front of house, so to get there entails a long walk down the porch to the right, down the steps, and then make a U-turn to get to the other end, other side of porch/house. And I have walking 'issues' with my knees and feet, so......

The opposite side of the house is similar conditions, tho, with shade from tree and hostas are jammin'...so maybe I'll put it over there so I can see it. THAT side, I DO get pleasure from on a daily basis. It's where my water faucet is...HA HA HA !!

As you said, mine scorched when I put it in full sun in it's pot, waiting to find a place for it. I knew then it needed part sun/shade. But it flourished, even in its root-bound pot until I finally got it planted and now...wow...it's taking off.

I just bought three of them to put in a pot with my Praying Hands hosta. They'll get some sun, but mostly bright dappled shade. I've had no prior experience with them, but thought they would look nice as a filler around the dark green hosta in the dark colored (and over-priced) pot.
