I too have corrosion on my mower deck. I took it to our local JD Repair place ONLY to have the clutch repaired. They now tell me they will not even touch my mower due to the hole in the deck - approx. 1 inch in diameter. They said i have to replace the deck before they will make any repairs. Total cost is going to be about $350-$400 for a new/used deck and a new clutch. You mention fixing a hole in the deck yourself - how? Is it worth it to fix it or do I consider the alternative - paying > $800 for a new mower. The mower has been great but now what??? Any suggestions?

Does this have an electric PTO? If so there might be a wire that is getting hot and not allowing you to turn on the deck.

Those hydraulic quick connections at the side of the tractor are so you can easily attach and detach the FEL. It take about 5 minutes to do it. The mid mount mower has nothing to do with it. It is completely unaffected by attaching or using the FEL. You can attach or detach and use the mower and the FEL at the same time, or either one without the other, in any combination. Of course can mow and use and the FEL at the same time. It would be pretty ridiculous if you could not do that. In fact I mow grass with the FEL attached all the time. When mowing I tow a lawn sweeper behind the tractor, and after I dump the grass clipping in front of the compost heap, I use the FEL to shovel the clippings onto the compost and mix it into the pile. I can also attach and detach the mower and the FEL independently of each other, and use either one with or without using the other. Of course you would want to do this. After all, they are two independent attachments on different parts of the tractor aren't they? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The boxes are rebuildable. It is hard to believe that is a $750 gear box. Wow. I've only done 2 of these Deere boxes and did gears, bearings, seals etc. If you're concerned about doing the repair yourself, ask the service manager at the Deere dealership about rebuilt cost VS new. You want to know the U-joints are solid yet before they go on to a new/ rebuilt box. The box is easy R&R. If you can do belts, you can R&R the box.
