What kind of problems should I expect

Hi,

I collected a lot of leaves last fall. About March 7th I started laying out a bunch of compost piles. Free standing about 4 feet tall by about 5 feet in diameter. About a 50/50 mix in regards to leaves being shredded and not shredded. Into each pile I put about 25 lbs or so or pre-composted chicken manure. I've turned each pile a couple of times since building them.

My goal is to have a large bed ready by May 2nd. To reach that goal I need to start mixing the contents of the compost piles into the soil (hard clay) RIGHT NOW.

The compost piles aren't fully broken down yet. They have turned a very dark brown and some black. But the leaves are in some part still leaves.

I've read that after the compost has turned to compost it should sit for 30 days before using it.

So the question is.....what happens if the contents of these piles are turned into the soil now. I'm planning on using a 50/50 mixture. 50% clay that is currently there and 50% from the content of the compost piles.

Thank you.

Have a Great Day,

Jim
