bwright I used the Dual Lock today to secure 4 acrylic "storm windows" to some north-facing aluminum windows today, and this stuff is the real deal! Backing comes-off easily, tape applies well, glue holds strong. I could slit the tape easily w/a utility knife where it was too wide. It holds the 0.100" acrylic very well; my wife and I give it four thumbs-up! Tho I haven't tried it yet on our GH polycarb panels, I'm certain it will work great to keep panels in place, even ours which are secure but which "rattle" in a wind. It will be nice to secure these at the tops and the bottoms especially. You could drill and screw the L-brackets also I suppose. The cattle panels just lay on top of the pipes (I tied them down in a couple places w/galvanized wire) and in the back corners I had to get creative--in several cases the panel is simply supported with screws, in others I had to put-in some brackets. Maybe I will post pics sometime, but these ain't particularly clever or pretty.

I must admit that you guys seem like a happy group for people that admit that they bought a less than quality product but decided to make the best of it AND MAKE IT BETTER. That is why AMERICA will always win. We never quit. I personally grew up on an Island, connected to the mainland by a bridge, granted, but the nearest town of any size was 42 miles away and it wasn't all that big either. My father could make ANYTHING FIT or WORK and I can recall time and time again when he did just that. I am very pleased to acknowledge that I have those genes running in my veins. The Oreintials (read China) might be able to make it cheaper, but WE make it BETTER. I absolutely LOVE to read how y'll have improved and strengthen those little flimsy, twisty pieces of left over beer cans and made them into things of beauty and STRENGTH. Heat is a major concern with the Rion kits. Their warranty certificate actually indicates in writing that Rion's warrantly does not cover damage due to excess heat. So if you go with a Rion, you will need to pay extra attention to temperature management. The Rion 8x16 I recently built, straight out of the box is a sauna. At noontime with no clouds, it was in the 70s F outside and it was breaking 120 degrees F inside. Shade cloth, fans and other supplemental cooling is a must. The HFGH has some drawbacks straight out of the box too, but there is a wealth of information on these forums on how to reinforce them to make them sturdier and more efficient. The price is also nice. For the price of one Rion, you can probably build 2 or 3 fully outfitted HFGH of similar size. You could set them up on brick or concrete knee-walls. But bear in mind that these are already tall units to begin with. The Rion stands over 8 feet at the peak, the HFGH is pretty close to that too I think. It is something to think about if you are in an area with high winds. I like my 8x16 Rion kit, but it is still too early to tell if it will age gracefully or crash & burn (or melt). I am willing to be the expensive guinea pig for everyone's sake :) Some metrics: (**Disclaimer this is NOT an expert opinion**) *Price: HFGH Wins - price difference is very significant. *History/Shared knowlege: HFGH Wins - I have seen a lot more informative posts about the HFGH than Rion. Come on Rion owners, you gotta share the knowledge :) *Sturdiness (Stock): Rion Wins - Straight out of the box, the HFGH needs some significant shoring up. The Rion has very substancial structure. This is assuming that both kits are properly anchored to the ground. *Structural Integrity (Heat): HFGH? This is just based on the assumption that aluminum will be better able to withstand high temperatures compared to plastic/resin combos. * Dead/Live Load: ????? - Rion claims that their GH can support a snow load of up to 1100lbs. I do not have data on the HFGH - can someone please fill us in? * Aesthetics: Rion Wins - It sure is purrty! :) * Expandability: ????? This is an iffy subject. You can purchase additional Rion "middle modules" to expand the length of the GH in 4 foot increments. But the price of the expansion kits will probably match that of a whole HFGH kit. So the decision becomes "Expand the Rion? or Build another HFGH?"

Treat the polycarb on your GH as you would the finish on an auto: get it thoughly wet with a mild pressure spray first, then soft mop with cleaner, as to not grind fine particulates into the finish, and as the "uck" you refer to is likely residue from jet fuel, it could do real damage to the polycarb, so regular washing will be one of those "must dos" for you. However, when it requires a cleansing agent in addition to water, you must be very careful and of all the products that will work well, are safe on UV treated polycarb, cheap and available anywhere, few will beat Joy in hot water. As subjected to airbourne pollutants as your GH will be, it might also be a good investment for you to get some acrylic polish, to give the polycarb extra protection, and for that; I would recommend a product called Brillianize. It will actually repel a lot of the "ugk" and allow you to quick rinse it off before it has a chance to damage the polycarb. As for a mop; just be careful to use one with no sharp edges or projections that could scratch the thin UV coating on the polycarb. Old fashoned, flat headed, cotton dust mops work well for the purpose. I can't speak to how well, or long a HFGH will hold up as opposed to any other made of the same materials, but would venture to guess that a good application of aluminum polish on the structural members, before the GH is assembled, wouldn't hurt. If I had known of what a great benefit the Brillianize would be for the polycarb before we assembled my own GH, I would have laid out the panels on a firm, flat surface and treated them then, instead of needing to climb ladders, after-the-fact.
