Yellow Roses. Harrisons Yellow?

We have two old yellow roses that I believe one is Harrisons Yellow. After they bloom I will post pictures and see if anyone can help decide what they are.

I am impatient though :) so want to ask if there is another rose that is very very much like Harrisons Yellow but with a different scent?

The growth is very similar in both and they both sucker new canes. They get to around 8 or 9 ft tall very fast. We tried to get rid of one several times because it wanted to explore the porch but is very thorny in your face so not good where you want to sit. It has won mostly because when it blooms, it is spectacular. The small yellow roses drape on bowers of rose branches and even though the scent is light the sheer number of blooms scent the entire area.

It took 8 years of living here to realize the two thickets are not the same rose. One is in the back and one is in the front and the bloom time is slightly different. As the one in the front ends its bloom the one in the back starts up.

The bloom is very similar but the one is the back has a very slightly more formal look to the blossom and slightly less scent.

Anyway I am not asking for identification exactly but wondering if there is another Harrisons Yellow sister rose out there?

I don't know what the other could be, but despite the prickles, I love Harison's. Does it bloom like this (this is the house of a friend who gave me a sucker). Last year was a good year. It isn't that double every year.

Photos would help when yours bloom.

You could have taken the pictures from my own roses. Aren't they wonderful?
I did find two pictures of one of the roses and posted them on the rose identification forum.

Harison's Yellow is a very awkward, gangly looking shrub until it gets big. It gets big by spreading out and colonizing new territory. For that reason, almost all the ones I've ever seen are planted as islands in the middle of lawn. The spread gets controlled by the lawnmower. It should work reasonably well with the lilac, and I wouldn't worry about it vs. a clematis, though I would probably wait a couple of years to let it get established first. Most anything else will just get overrun. Rosa hugonis or Rosa primula are better behaved plants that are more likely to bloom with the S. vulgaris cultivars. At least they do here. Harison's Yellow is well in the second wave of roses, and tends to bloom with the rugosas.

Just letting you know I have a whole fenceline of Harrison's yellow roses. I know very little about gardening (or roses) and want to learn more... I was raised by my grandmother though, who grew much of our food and I helped... but I mostly did the eating part. Now I have lived here for several years, with these beautiful yummy spelling yellow roses (which come to find out are these Harrison's Yellow Roses you speak of). But we are moving this summer and I really don't want to leave them behind. We all love them. My mother, myself and my two daughters pick them every year to make potpouri, herbal sachets, essential oils, etc. but we've never had to DO anything for them, they take care of themselves. I wouldn't mind trading some (a few starts, cuttings or whatever) for some good advice on starting some elsewhere (it's only several miles away in eastern oregon and they grow wild here, as do other roses, but I am unsure of soil type, etc.). I thought since the suckers seem to find their way around so well, maybe I could try a few of those as well as some cuttings, but I don't know where to begin.

I have been seen a rose very similar to Harisons Yellow called Williams Double Yellow. Both give a spectacular display. Thorny or not, I gotta have my Harisons Yellow, one of my favorites.

susan, I was over there today, she wanted me to see how the Harisons are loaded with buds. They are, but the blooms aren't quite as spectacular yet, but it is early for our zone.

You should have seen that scene today. In just one year, that group of Harisons has almost enclosed that azalea, hard to believe the several bigger plants put out so much new growth in one year. In time, she may have to prune it, but she doesn't like to; I'm inclined to let them go their way myself. Even the leggy one wasn't noticeable with all the new growth.

Yes, they are wonderful! You should see my spindly little thing with two buds on it. I'll try to find the rose id forum but probably won't know what the other one is.

The pictures I posted are from last year. We just got one flower yesterday! I believe it about the spreading. We planted tulips under ours a few years ago and now we have to move the branches to find the tulips. Would move them but hmm have to deal with thorns so I think the tulips stay!
We are taking suckers and getting them started out away from the house so they can have free rein to grow as big as they want. Wouldn't a hedge of these be something to see?
