Genie Screw drive garage won't open or close

I have a /genie 1/2 HP model 2060L-07 garage door opener that won't close or open. The motor runs but the screw drive doesn't spin almost like it's striped.

Any suggestions?

Used for attaching the screw of Genie screw drive rail to the motor head. This coupler is made to break away if the door hits a hard obstruction, thereby protecting the motor. If the motor of the screw drive Genie runs, but the screw is not turning, this coupler needs replaced. For Genie's with split-rail screw drives, make sure you are looking at the rail screw nearest to the motor to determine the need for replacement. Part number is 3025T.

I have the same problem with the Genie garage door (series G, model 12A), in that the motor runs but the screw nearest the motor doesn't turn, but mine has another problem too. Even when the motor runs, most of the time it stops fairly quickly. Any ideas in addition to a broken coupler?

First of all eliminate screw drive openers. They are fine if you have a one piece swing out door found only in warmer climates like California. The chain drive is by far number one in sales and works fine. The belt drive is quieter and almost a must if you have living space above the garage. It would be my first pick. Chamberlain is the worlds largest manufacturer of openers. Last I heard Genie was made by Sanwa Shutter Company. That should tell you something.

I just replaced the carraige on an older genie garage door opener with the three piece rail. It was a simple fix, off with the old, on with the new and I lubed the carriage and screwdrive with the recommended grease! My problem is the vibration as the carriage tracks!! I checked the joints where the rail joins together and they are tight! The design of the 3 piece rail does not lend itself to a vibration free operation! There appears to be sway from side to side with no bracing between header and motor. Question: Are there any brackets out there that can fix this problem, after market, hand made, etc.. DIYGrandpa

I had the same problem with a Genie screw drive after I lost a spring that put the door in a bind. Mine turned out to be a sheared pin inside the unit, it started out as going down about halfway (pin was partially sheared) and then coming back up, then after a few days it would not even start down (pin completely sheared) the motor worked but no movement. I would assume that the Craftsman and Genie screw drives are similar in design?? I pulled the entire unit down took it apart cleaned /degreased the track and screw, replaced the sheared pin lubricated and reassembled the unit and it works as well today as it did when new. At this point though I wish I had simply replaced it since the old unit does not have the rolling code security feature. Oh well I guess I will replace it next time there is a problem. It lasted 16 years the first time. Might get 10 years or so this time.

Two easy answers. Anytime the door reverses and the main light flashes 10 times it is a sensor problem. There is no way to bypass the sensors.

My 80s Sears chain driven openers problems are usually easily spotted as stripped plastic gears (with the 4 screw cover off). There are replacement kits for the DIY that are not hard to replace if you have tools/skills. This usually occurs when resistance is presence from PM needs and foundation/structure shifts.

I get the stopping on one door when it's freezing weather due to the resistance from weak springs the opener detects. I can increase up/down adjustment but usually leave as is due to it opening on the 2nd try or give it minor help.

Post a pic of where your openerÃ¢ÂÂs screw engages with your openerÃ¢ÂÂs motor (with the cover off if needed.

Where can I find Old School solid frame doors Ã¢ÂÂStretch SpringsÃ¢ÂÂ vs new panel doors (Ã¢ÂÂTorsion or ExtensionÃ¢ÂÂ)? My springs pull arms toward the floor to open my frame doors, Ã¢ÂÂon overhead tracksÃ¢ÂÂ (since 1968 W P/M).

I can attach a pic of the Sears plastic gear if that will help. Plus ck the ease of Ã¢ÂÂAllÃ¢ÂÂ doors opening W/O the help of the opener. This can explain the overload and problems due to weak springs.
