super tech synthetic oil at WalMart

I tried to use the search engine here and it wasn't working (for me anyway :-) )

Much as I dislike "wally world" I do go there occasionally as living in a small town there's stuff you go there for or drive 2-3 hours-I may be opinionated, but not totally dumb. Anyway, saw a friend who runs a lawn service business who was buying 4-5 quart containers of super tech 5W-30 synthetic oil which he said he uses in his machines. He said he's used it for a while and as far as he's seen it's a great value for the money.

I never considered it, always kind of thought you get what you pay for in lubrication products, but $18 for a full synthetic (5 quart) did get my attention.

I have always found Wal-Mart to have the best prices on limited major brands of motor oils. Then, good prices on their house brands that are usually major brands in Wal-Mart's container. I have had 2-4 dollar savings on clearance specials of 5 qt, 10-30 wt Castrol motor oil for our trucks and cars. I know they have the best price ever on Merlot (an oil). LOL! loger

I like Supertech synthetic as well as Pennzoil ultra and Rotella T synthetics at Wally's.

Orange : Not Stubborn at all just knowledgeable within Proper Oil Specifications. You have 13 LB which run ok on Marine Grade Oil then that's all that matters to you . I have run Snowmobiles , Snow-blowers , Chainsaws , Motorcycles , Outboards and Inboards and frequently upgrade my Oil Specifications accordingly to the Best (Better than Suggest Manufacturer Grade). I also repair and rebuilt the above for numerous friends and clients for over 30 yrs. I guess that's why have Chainsaws and Lawnmowers and Snow-blowers that never quit due to improper maintenance or inferior lubrication , because I have seen the results 1st hand.I further understand that the TC-W3 Specs which are Administrated from the NMMA have been recently amended , however that has do with the reduction in dispersant additive within the oil for anti fouling due to moisture intrusion from thermal cycles or leaking seals . It had nothing to due with the adding a detergent to Reduce Carbon which is a Proponent your Marine grade oil will not provide your air-cooled unit. Any amount of carbon 0.40 fouling on a Piston Dome can cause rapid failure . This is why Old Mineral oils required routine Engine Top End De-carbonizing back in the Day . As I said I don't Rely on a Manufacturer who wishs for eventual unit replacement to Guide my Oil Selection . The Oil I use is a little more expensive but I feel it's warranted do to the Application of Use and the Additives Required. You have a right to your opinion but I would suggest you review the Most Recent Oil Specifications Guide on Marine vs Air-Cooled Engine Recommendations and Not Minimum Standards of one Manufacturer . The "question" by johndeere could be interpreted as a thinly disguised derision. Here is a serious response.The ST filters are $2.49 at WM. I use one per year per mower, I have two such mowers. WM had 6 of the filters, I bought all of them. Was at the store for other reasons, wearing my coveralls with patches on the knees, and decided to save an extra trip later. Local mower dealer gets about $12.00 each for the Briggs brand filters. Thrift practices are just my way of life, a skill born of necessity. From a childhood of tenant farming, I now can write a valid check well into 6 figures, own 7 houses with no debt, and almost 100 acres of land with no debt. Between 2002 and 2005, I donated over $250,000 to favored causes. I do indulge myself a bit. I have a late-model high-performance imported car in my garage- a red one! My everyday car is a (blue) 1988 model . Hope that explains it.

Issue is not synthetic vs. dino, but rather how the oil is formulated. Wal-Mart Supertech is TCW-3 which is for watercooled engines. Toro also specified it for their Suzuki 2 strokes in the Proline mowers. Generally it's OK for engines spinning less than 6000 or 7000 rpm. I used to use it in my Suzukis and also use it in some cheaper Homelite and Poulan weedeaters and chain saws. However, for an engine which is higher revving, like my Olympic weedeater and my Stihl chainsaw, I use a synthetic rated for aircooled applications.

I need some help if any on here would mind. My Husvarna riding mower 48 inch yth2348 with a intel v-twin 23hp briggs model#445577 type 0755E1 motor . It started acting like it wanted to die going up hill about 2 years ago but it ran fine after it was on level ground or going down hill. a couple days ago it finally cut off on me and could not get it running. I checked around the fuel pump and i noticed the vacuum hose going from the fuel pump to the valve cover was split. I took the valve cover off and tried to crank it and when i did i noticed a stream of oil shooting out as it turned over.. Didn't think much of that so put the cover back on and I replaced the hose and it started but started smoking really bad and doesn't seem to have very much power. This is the first time it has ever smoked any and now it has a miss in it as well. This all happened all of a sudden on the smoking. I also noticed when i got it back running that oil is seeping out of the fuel pump , i would think that is from the stream of oil i seen when i took the cover off is going up in the vacumn hose now that the cover is back on. Can anyone tell me what would cause these issues on this motor. everything that could possibly be wrong and order to check them first.

This is my opinion others may disagree?!. Wally get alot or rap, but it's been american way for quit sometime. all started back in the 60's an maybe earlier to prop up the bottom line and CEO's get there outrageous bonus. AT What cost? american jobs, this really came to light in the middle 60's when you started seeing metric hardware showing up on american made cars. Spread like wild fire AMerican companies taught them, trained them, just for cheap or slave labor, and even the government encoured or paid big manufacturing companies to go overseas. Kmart was no different. They all ran mom and pop out around the corner in small towns or large with these hugh stores they had to compete with. and will be the down fall to this country. Just like when I read about the rifle that goes off when you bump it. Designer has 4 cent fix back in 1959, but that ran into the profit margain and the company didn't go with it. and just think how many people died for 4 cent fix.

So far so good with the Super-Tech oil with me. We use this in many of our machines.. There is a very fine line between good value and junk, IMO.
I agree in part with Rcmoser, but only partially.
We need balance.
And, we need the truth.
And far better education...applies to me as well...
Designer has 4 cents fix ????
I do not think that it is the "American" way, rather its man's way, men in China, Germany and England, everywhere even Japan. And this is nothing new...

I have used Wal Mart oils in my car and mowers regularly and never a problem... i just bought a 5qt bottle a few weeks back and came to the conclusion (based on the bottle it was in) that it was probably made by Mobil...the package for the quarts and 5 quart bottles were identical. Don't know about the synthetic though.

Some might feel that the OEM manufacturer (let's assume it's Mobil) "cuts" something out for Wal Mart versus their brand...I assume that it wouldn't be cost efffective for the OEM to do this - most likely just the same oil at a lower price.

You would need to be a oil company chemical engineer and/or know someone that works for Wal Mart as a buyer to get the real answer.
