John I have to agree totally with you. I ordered from them for the first time last fall and got the best ever bare-roots, they are all leafed out and full of buds right now. I think they are hands down one of the best places to order bare-root roses from. and I agree about Rahel - she's great. I spoke with her a couple times before my order and she was so nice. Just a joy to deal with.

I ordered fron Palatine as well as and two days ago I became the proud owner of 7 gorgeous bareroots! Amazingly nice Kordes roses! I had recd a order from Pickering for 3 roses (Austin) a week before and I am happy with those as well. The Palatine roses though were exceptonialy huge and I so look forward to these. I have them all soaking and will pot them up them weekend I hope. If it weren't for this cold snap of 20 degrees at night I would have planted them out this weekend!

Maybe all of you would be willing to provide feedback on your postive experience with Palatine to Gardenwatchdog. A kit of people read Gardenwatchdog (previously Plnts by Mail] who are not GW memebres or visitors.

A new copany fro us and they deserve good feedback.

I wish I had heard about them sooner - I called to order a couple of the new Kordes, but they aren't taking any more orders or shipping to U.S. until next year. Sigh!

Karen, there was a lot of positive feedback about Palatine from early on: they shipped to the US from late fall in 2006.
Marina posted photos of her huge bareroots she got from this company and Morden Man had a very long post with a series of photos showing the big difference in plants size of Palatine, Pickering and Hortico plants. There could be no doubt that Palatine was the best.
As matter of fact, my plants from them were so much bigger and better than the famous huge Edmunds plants that I cannot even want to go into the comparison any further.

I am truly sorry that you missed all these.

Palatine is one of the very few places which carries "Nicole." However, like Pickering, you have to order a minimum of three roses. I just received the box yesterday and am impressed with the number of canes and the packaging. Particularly since the weather in DC is just as bad as it is everywhere in the East and South (anybody watch the Master's tournament today???). I just don't have any idea what I'm going to do with the two Lemon Drop minis I had to buy. Oh well, time to get some more pots.

I am glad to hear other positive responses to Palatine, but disappointed to hear they aren't taking any more orders.. I wanted to order three more from them Monday.

I too ordered last spring from them and was impressed with the quality of the product and the wonderful service. I have an order that should be arriving within the next 10 days, can't wait to see them. They do sell the best bareroots.

I just posted photos of 2 (of 5) I ordered this spring that have bloomed, and one more will bloom today or tomorrow. All 5 have buds. All 5 were potted up in early April. One has a basal. This is crazy good stuff with excellent service.

Floral Fairy Tale

I love my roses from Palatine. Sunsprite started blooming last week and is now on its third bloom. Marilyn Monroe hasn't bloomed yet but is a nice, big, healthy bush. I was going to get my backordered Countess Sonja this fall, but I think I might be better off waiting until spring. I've already picked out a few to add to that order (Rosenstadt Freising and Valencia) but I'm waiting for their spring list to see what else there might be.

My Kordes' Roses from Palatine continue to do well since breaking dormancy. The Magma has bloomed and it was a beautiful and long lasting yellow with a red/pink outline on the outer petals. I have some roses ordered for the fall of this year.
If you still want roses from them this year, check with Rahel and see if she can give you ordering dates and what is available. I will pot mine up and them put them out this next Spring 2008.

Rosenstadt Freising has already rooted through the 18" pot that is its home. I'm going to have to yank it up to put it in a 20" pot and to move it because it is crowding out OLoG (also rooted through, but it has been there longer) in the pot condo. One huge basal, another new cane starting from near the base. Just wanted folks who are thinking about ordering from Palatine (hey, fall is coming!) to know...

My Sunsprite from Palatine has sent up a huge cane and is now the largest of my new roses. It would have a ton of blooms on it too if the japanese beetles would leave it alone but it seems to be their favorite rose. Marilyn Monroe is covered in blooms right now. Palatine is definitely one of my favorite places to order from since those two have done so well.

I'm telling you, I have never received such huge bareroots in my life as these! My Rainbow Niagra is absolutely stunning!

I just want to update on my Palatine roses.
Every one of the 6 is growing exceptionally well and are blooming very well. These have just been so easy to raise. They have never worried me a whit about dying. Masquerade took it's sweet time to get going but now that it has it is blooming well and they look just like the pictures on the website. They are gorgeous. Perfect Moment, Magma, Paradise, and Memoire are also just chugging right along producing good blooms on good healthy and sturdy plants.
I have an order already started with Rahel for some roses for next spring so I make sure to get them before they run out this time. I really want the climber Roberta Bondar and hope reality lives up to its' pictures and reputation.
I only hope that the folks at Palatine increase their selection, though, if that would mean sacrificing any of the quality they currently offer, I wouldn't change a thing at all.
