I have one in my HFGH. My house is set up for starting bedding plants so I have shelves along each side so it doesn't get in the way for me. You can see my original installation in the pictures I posted a few weeks ago in the thread about my construction and north wall insulation here http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/strucs/msg121339449284.html?8 I had problems getting it adjusted so that it would open and close at a higher temp so I have since added an aluminum angle, attached a redwood 2x4 block to the aluminum angle and attached the univent to it. It works much better that way. I'll try to take a picture and post it this weekend.

Buyorsell - The shelf is just attached to the two vertical beams. Actually, being a leftover from an actual closet project (imagine that!) it's just a tad shorter than 6', so wouldn't reach the corners anyway. I'm not sure if we're referring to the same photo, but I did see one of an overhead wire shelf quite well-loaded. The secret is that the shelf is actually resting on two heavy metal pipes that run the full length of the shelf, front and back. So it's the pipes, and the rafters they're attached to, that are providing the strength. Funnylady - That's quite a project to tackle alone; more power to you! And best wishes, too, to you and your husband through this ordeal. My husband has just finished his cancer treatment (well, most of it ... he's still on certain meds and supplements and the very important and often-overlooked dietary changes; no chemo or surgery, though, just hormonal and radiation therapies). I think it's great that you have the gardening hobby ... can't think of a better therapy!

Ya know, it's funny... One of the roof vents binds (and I attribute that to the structure being 'slightly less than perfectly square'). The window brace (#51) on that side has also managed to twist itself slightly, since installation. That's the vent on the "north" side of the GH and I don't think I'll be putting a self-opener on that one (*I* get to be the automatic window-opener!!!). The window vent on the south side seems to open and close easily (:::shrug:::). Since that's the side that's exposed to sunlight, I'll put the solar vent opener over there. As far as the door goes: I've futzed around with that endlessly! I tried cleaning the track thoroughly (leaves, dust, dirt, etc.) and sprayed it with McLube (Sail lubricant - for sailboats - it's non-greasy). I'm a little leary of using anything called "grease" since it's outside, and Grease + Dirt = Yuk! (Or is Silicone Grease not really "greasy?!!"). I can get the door to open/close with "relative ease." Meaning I don't have to wrestle with it, but it definitely does take both hands! The thing that's giving me grief is the little plastic "lip" piece (Excuse me, "Door Bottom Slider" #40). It stays on the track, but pops off when the door is almost fully open. I can't seem to find a way to "lower" the upper door slider-track, so I'm thinking I need to shim (and/or bend) up the bottom instead. Dave, what was your experience with this? Thanks! -Nancy

Wanted to update on the insulation tape. Last night, DH was trying to get the 2 windows put together but they wouldn't fit. They were too thick with my insulation tape on them. He had to cut about 1/4" off around the edges. Does that make sense? If I had it to do over again, I would still use the tape on the two 5A panels, but I wouldn't line it up against the edge of the panel. I know that I'm not describing it very well; I probably sound like the people that wrote the dang directions for the greenhouse!!! LOL!! Necia
