Keeping critters out

I have composted for years (far from an expert, just did what came natural). We moved here two years ago and started a garden last year. I composted what I had and ended up with quite a bit of compost last fall and incorperated that into the soil when we closed the garden down in the fall.

This year I have accumulated quite a few kitchen scraps in the freezer and unheated garage and would like to build a pile now. Only problem is we are in God's country and have every animal imaginable. I don't want to attract racoons/possums/mice etc so what should I build a pile in to keep them out?

I just did a pile and turned it last year, but I'd like to build a container to maybe fence them out because there are more food scraps than last year. I'm not looking to create a problem. What would you suggest???
