concrete wire reinforcing mesh greenhouse

Here in Calgary they make wire mesh that they lay in concrete to give it added strength .I phoned them and found they sell 20 foot by 7.5 foot sheets that have 6 inch squares . These are made of all different guages of wire

I'm thinking if I stuck one end with 6 inches of wire protruding into the ground and bent the sheet into an acrh and stuck the other end into the ground then anchored them by wiring them to railway ties and by putting 2 sheets side by side I would have a 15 foot long green house at the cost of $24 -$63 per 7.5x20 foot sheet the $60 sheet would be to hard to bend and too heavy to manage alone.so maybe $60.00 may do it for 2 sheets .Then the folks down the road sell green house polly guarenteed 4 years for $130 a roll ( 10'X100' )The north end I could dig a few postholes and drop a few dead trees in so I could nail old plywood to and the south end the same but use poly not plywood.I also thought to be on the safe side I could dig about 3 holes down the middle to put posts in to staple to top of the arch to for added stability .I saw a green house that was arched like this but wood frame and the bottom of the poly was attached to a long 2x2 that they roled up when ever they needed ventilation ..Can someone please advise me of what all might go wrong if I go ahead with this plan ?? Like everything I ever did it sounds easy till putting it into practice. Don't get me wrong I like to work on projects but I find the more questions I ask the better prepared I become ..

It has been done using cattle panels. I don't see why your parts wouldn't work just as well.

Thanks for the website , They sure have a lot of good ideas , I dont think I want to grow year round like them but I sure can extend my season .Thanks

Thanks for taking a look at my birdbath. The little bird I just made from a handful-sized "lump" of tufa. It's not any kind of bird really, just a wee fat bird taking a drink. The base - I had a styrofoam cone shape, wrapped it in plastic and then motor-oiled it a bit. I shaped wire mesh around it in a shape I liked, then used the "cheesegrater" method of pushing in my crete mix, which was 1portland/1sand/ 2perlite. I pulled out the styrofoam cone so I could reuse it. The bowl is the same mix, with a thin layer of portland/sand on the inside, as I'd been having leakage problems with just the perlite mix. It's nice and light, but seems quite strong too. I think I'll try using my judgement on what really needs reinforcement. Some things are obvious, some are not. And that wire mesh sure can tear up your hands! I used chickenwire for years with my paper mache sculptures, and it was ok once I built up callouses, but for awhile my fingertips and hands would just be all torn up...

Hi Carol, I bet you are loving having the 2 HFGH joined together. The one I have quickly filled up with my tropical plants in no time. I actually have had to overwinter plants at my mom's house because I ran out of room! LOL She's ready for me to get the greenhouse done. :) My husband plans on doing some work on it this evening since it's not raining right now. I think he has it in his mind how he's wanting to join them together, something like you did I believe. I won't be having doors at both ends since we are putting the gas heater and exhaust fan on one end. That was the reason that my DH allowed me a third GH now, so he wouldn't have to move the heater & fan later on down the road when I say that 2 aren't enough. :0) He's knows me well! I'll be sure and ask any ? if we get stumped on joining the three. Thanks for offering. Hi Barb, You will love having a single door on the harbor freight. What a pain those sliding doors were! If they weren't coming off of the track when I was trying to open them, then the wind was blowing them open. And where the doors met there was always a small gap between them. I love my greenhouse now, but it will be even better when it's bigger. Too bad you will have to cut down your maple tree. But in the long run you aren't going to miss it that much. ;) Amber

I don't see how you can put a framed floor over dirt like that. Seems like a major recipe for mold, mildew, rotting, smelly basement, etc. If you pour the concrete over the dirt how are you going to handle drainage? Usually you would have several inches of stone and drains plus a daylight drain and/or sump. You should also have plastic under the concrete. I would do the plastic even if you are not going to do the stone. I've never heard of putting rebar in a basement floor. Around here they use metal mesh. Make sure they pull it up so it is close to centered in the slab.

cattle panels have irregular wire spacing most often concrete panels have even regular spacing which is probably better. The biggest problem with reinforcement panels is they would need a good moisture proofing to prevent rust the cattle panels are galvanized so should resist moisture much better.

Might cost you a small fortune for hotspot tape :)
Paint the mesh white to reduce the amount of heat it picks up from direct sun, otherwise the poly wont last very long.
