Your trimmer uses 0.065 diameter string; you can buy a roll and wind it onto the spool you have. I believe (but not certain) that the part number of the new spool is 249855 - about $6 at Lowes. If buying a new pre-wound spool, take your old one with you to compare and make sure that the 249855 is the right one.

Yesterday I bought a blower and trimmer at Home Depot. They were part of the Single Source 18v system. I chose the trimmer because it uses the same battery that the blower does and came with 2 batteries. Now I have 3 batteries that can be used on either tool. There is also a chainsaw available that could be handy for light jobs. I have yet to really use the tools. The blower does seem to have some good power and is very small and light weight. The trimmer is adjustable in length and can also be used as an edger. They both seem solid and well built. I will post more when I get a chance to try out the trimmer and see the endurance of it's batteries. My yard is less than 1/4 acre and should not be too demanding. I almost bought the Toro 2 stroke system with changeable attachments. But considering the cost and potential practicality of the 18v batteries. I've been using a B&D electric trimmer for at least 6 years. I think it's a Grass Hog model with a 5 amp motor and .065 line. It works very well on my St. Augustine grass as long as it's being used in the horizontal position and just for the blades of grass. It is not powerful enough to effectively trim the thick runners the blades grow from. Takes alot of extra line to get that done. Also when the head is turned to vertical to use for light edging, it's performance diminishes. More line is used in this mode and the line gets jammed frequently. I'm somewhat embarrassed to confess that I have even "mowed" my entire just-less-than-1/4 acre with it on two occasions when I was without a mower. People looked at me like I was nuts, but later commented that it looked almost as good as when it's really mowed. Also on the plus side was that when something, I don't remember what it was, went wrong with my first one, the local B&D service center just confirmed by the code # on it that it was just within the two year warranty period and had a new one sent out to me which arrived within a week. No hassle at all. It starts every time I plug it in and pull the trigger. Moving the cord around has never really bothered me and if I limit the amount of heavy edging I occasionally do with it, I rarely think about upgrading.

I usually look at anything being sold thru an infomercial as being suspect! That guy who shills for Sham-wow and the cheese and onion chopper is suspect, too. Usually, the thing they show on Tv is the only good one they make! the ones they sell to customers are usually made of cheap materials, and don't do what they are supposed to do, or they break soon after you try to use them! But, since there are so many folks out there, in TV land, who still believe the moon is made of green cheese, that they have no problem sucking in the buyers! There is advertised on TV, a garden tool, which runs on an electric drill, and will do away with garden tillers, plows, etc! Digs the dirt up right quickly! And, can be used on a cordless drill! Can be bought by brainless people, too! The sellers show it merrily digging up the dirt! only trouble with that picture--the dirt has already been dug and raked over, and sifted, and all the tool does is churn up the already tilled dirt! My take on TV advertised, by infomercial, is this: As P.T.Barnum said: There's another sucker born every minute!
