I hear ya. The weather person has as much chance of being wrong as right in our neck of the woods too. lol Ok, well I do hope that is the case with the SVBM. We've had an unusually large number of birds in the yard. Robins seem to have nested nearby and I counted about 7 adolescents yesterday. Then a flock of starlings, and a pair of catbirds. They all seem to be very interested in the vegetable beds. Flying in and out of the beds with squash in them, so I am hoping they are finding bugs to eat. I don't even have a feeder up, because I didn't want to attract squirrels. I do have a number of shrubs that fruit is developing on and I think they are here in anticipation of a feast. And I seem to remember reading that birds that are fruit eaters, also eat insects. So this has been an interesting development this year.

i'd try calling up agrisupply. not sure if there's one out your way, but there's one in garner. also try southern states. for beans i often will construct a trellis of 3 bamboo poles teepee style, which you could put probably 6 plants around. if you watch for abandoned homesites with boo and then look up the tax records and contact the owner you can probably get permission to harvest some. then you just run twine in a spiral up the boo and the beans grab onto it. also, there is a nylon netting product sold that has about 4-6" holes in it and is very durable. i have it on 2 permanent trellises and it's been going for several years. i got mine through pinetree gardens, but i think i've seen it at logan's. you'd have to fasten it to something, but it's much easier on the hands than wire. you can build with the boo and attach it to that or to anything, really. only downside is it tangles easily when you're installing or taking it down. it gets mildewed after a season, so it isn't glaring white after a bit (a good thing).

Christie, it is the only way I grow beans; I don't bother with bush beans anymore. I use the 15' panels and if you make the arch 6 feet wide, it will be tall enough to walk under...that is my technique. I drive two steel t-posts in first. Then with help place the first panel up next to it, bend it and while it is being held in place on the 6 foot line, drive the second row of steel posts (2). From then on you can use just one post where the panels meet or slightly overlap. I intend to do one for the new garden next year.

Ok. In order for the arch to be higher, the tanks would need to be much closer together if you put them on the inside of the panel. They might be hard to get between, to weed, etc. So I would suggest you put them on the outside of the arch.(one on each side). I don't know if you considered that already as the option and pretty much have the tanks where you want them, but it looks like you wouldn't be able to weed the tank on the right, if it is right near the fencing. Have you put any drainage holes in the bottoms of these tanks? Don't put too many in. I was using about 9 food-grade stock tanks and put waaaay too many holes in them and the water would drain out much too soon, and I have to water them about every other day......which is a drag. I've tried to plug some of the holes and they're doing a big better. But mine are up on some cement blocks, and not right on the ground. I love trellis gardening. I grow (in the ground) cucumbers on both sides of the trellis and they love it. I also use my kids old swing set with fencing up one side and over it and grow winter squash, and it seems to love growing upwards.
