Anyone here used expanded shale to modify clay soil?

Just learned about this on another forum where a link was provided to:

I've listened to everyone here talking about compost being the best way and I have made a fair amount of compost but sure would be nice to add amendments to the soil that would be more permanent. Expanded Shale may still be a bit experimental but I've found a couple of sources here in Houston so I think I'm going to give it a try.

Because of circumstances beyond my control, I have to wait a few weeks but I'm rather excited about the possibility of permanently fixing all the clay soil I've got.

Would like feedback from anyone who has already tried and failed with this stuff or tried and succeeded. Maybe there really is an easier way?
