On the other hand, I am guessing that it could all be overgrown again in less than a year's time, if someone or yourself isn't keeping up with the regrowth? Tibs brings up a valid point, that soaking the ground for an hour at a time is necessary to penetrate very dry clay soils, but not so much for pulling weeds, but to get it soft enough to rototill. A 15 minute wetting down may be all that is necessary to get weed seeds to germinate, but in a garden with deep rooted shrubs, or trying to get your shrubs to be deep rooted, it is necessary to water for 20 to 40 minutes or more to get the soil wet more than just a few inches deep. In some parts of southern California there are current water restrictions on days you can water, but as far as I know, it is still at the point that a limit on water quantity allowed is more a matter of budget than legal prohibitions. That changes when water rationing is declared. As most water for much of southern California comes from the Colorado River or northern California, the actual rainfall that falls in s. Calif. is a plus for the gardener, but doesn't usually add to the total water supply The point about limited water availability does also speak to the point of about whether such a lawn and flower beds in the traditional East Coast sense should be the approach taken. Aside from the best way to tackle the preparation prior to planting, the design approach, selection for more drought tolerant and native soil tolerant plantings, and drip irrigation and heavy mulching would be the way I'd approach this garden if I were consulting on it. Surface rock is really no detriment to growing plants, and is more of an aesthetic issue. If you are trying to grow root crops in a vegetable garden, it makes sense to either create raised beds or berms with new loamy soil. If you design the new garden with appropriate plants that may even prefer a leaner, rockier soil, it doesn't have to be a problem. Sometimes it makes more sense to ask the right questions and get the owner's feedback. I'm willing to bet that the owner never thought about alternatives to creating a typical lawn/flowerbed design, or the potential to work with the existing conditions rather than against them....See MoreMont. Spark plug was probably Champion J8 (NLA) but replaced by J17LM or another manufacturers equivalent. This is 14mm plug with 3/8" reach. As for fuel system you don't have lines or hoses per se. Carburetor mounts on top of tank, and two tubes reach into the tank to pull fuel up. First long tube uses a rubber diaphragm as a pump to pull fuel from main tank and then drop it into a small reservior just below the carb. Second shorter tube then sucks fuel up through the main jet, behind the throttle valve and into the intake of the engine. Briggs still sells a kit for the 130000 Pulsa-Jet carb, which includes the diaphragm and other parts p/n 494624 about $7.00. You will still have to clean out the passages and the two pick up tubes....See Moreold Montgomery Ward tiller
Comments (42)HU-808223396 Your engine is probably and older 100000 series. You have three possible approaches: 1) If yours is an older engine (roughly pre-1970) you may have a three-leg coil attached to the block with four bolts. The replacement coil is 297594, and the flywheel has two square magnets 297348. The Ignition kit is 299061 and includes points, condenser, pushrod, and flywheel key. 2) If later, you would have a two-leg coil attached with two bolts. Replacement coil is 298316, and flywheel will have a single rectangular magnet 297229. Ignition kit is the same 299061. 3) if you have the later 2-leg coil, you can convert to electronic ignition. 3A) Easiest way is to replace 2-leg coil with electronic version 697037 (or 394398 or 397358). Also available from aftermarket suppliers. No need to remove flywheel to remove points and condenser. Simply cut wires going under the flywheel. 3B) Briggs also made a kit to modify your coil with an electronic module 394970. No longer made by Briggs, but commonly available on Ebay and aftermarket suppliers. A little more work to install, and your coil must be known good. Originally kit was less expensive from Briggs than new OEM electronic coil, but now aftermarket coil is often cheaper than kit. 4) If you have the older three-leg (four-bolt) coil, you are stuck with replacing in kind and replacing points and condenser. The electronic coils and electronic kit will not work with three-leg coils and the two-magnet flywheels...See MoreWeather roller coaster
Comments (12)Kay is as whiny as always. Stinking shoulder has my garden looking as if I had died. Some ruthless culling of plants is in the forecast. I gave away a lot of iris last year and have more promised for this year. i have decided I am reducing to 300 daylilies. that means between 40 and 50 will be leaving. I sent off a good many in the fall, but had more new ones than I got rid of. If I just like it, if it doesn't bloom to suit me, (often bonus plants) It is going. I have to do that unless I hire a gardener, and that isn't going to happen, although I may and probably will get some help with mulching. Your garden looks great. Mine is a morass of weeds. I have been out and working a bit, and in an hour or so, I will be back out for a little while. azaleas and snowballs are beautiful, at least. kay...See Moreabehe3ep
