Marijon, You don't say where you are located -- but if you were in my area, I would say that a major pruning of this rose is not needed at this time. In my Southern CA area, a 2-year-old climber of this type is still immature. Can you say where you are located? Jeri

Just cut the spent blooms off and trim the cane back to a leaflet with five leaves facing outwards. Note if you do nothing at all it will likely still rebloom, just not the way you might have planned for. Even if you cut it back to the ground it will rebloom, but it will take 2 months for the new canes to grow. We live in a similar climate weather wise. A Jacob's Coat at a local retail business is located on the end of their building. It receives no care whatso ever and blooms in late February on buds grown during the previous fall growth spurt. While I agree that there are better climbers than Joseph's Coat, I feel obligated to defend it. Most of the clones on sale are suffering from RMV. A healthy clone is a vigorous rose and no more BS prone than any other modern rose. I have one purchased from Heirloom Roses (RMV free) and in its second season it is over the top of the arch and has bloomed at least some continuously - even in the heat and JB invasion. It will need spraying for BS, but it has all its leaves while a few modern roses in my garden, do not despite my spraying. I've not had any winter dieback either on an ownroot RMV free clone of the plant. It sure does garner the attention from my neighbors - the colors are spectacular.

It's quite pretty and could be any number of roses. I used to grow the hybrid tea 'Pascali' at a former home, and your mystery rose reminds me of it. It has only slight fragrance to my nose, as you describe your rose.
