Need Ideas for a Free-Standing ShadeCoth?

This forum is amazing! I'm hoping someone out there has a solution for my situation.

We'd like to create a free-standing shade cloth for our young Japanese Bloodgood maple tree on our front lawn. It gets early morning, mid-day and late afternoon sun. Since it's still relatively mild weather here in the San Jose, CA area, we're trying to shade this now, before the really hot summer sun arrives (and burns the leave dry like it did last year).

We have several 7' tall garden stakes (metal rod covered with thick green plastic), and plenty of black shade cloth. The maple tree is less than 5 ft tall, and approximately 4' in width.

Any ideas out there on how we can construct something that would give sufficient coverage - yet not look totally tacky on our front lawn?

Thanks for any advice!
