Usefulness of Feed Store supplies

I'm trying desperately to cut costs on garden soil for about 135 cubic feet of garden, so I'm attempting something close to lasagna gardening. I have some free alpaca manure and cheap straw lined up, but stuff like peat moss is too rich for my budget. I also messed up in that I sent my leaves in with the city pickup last fall.

However, at the feed store, they have a wide variety of feeds like timothy hay, cracked corn, something with beets and molasses, and other similar stuff for pretty low prices per pound. Have you used animal feeds in your composting, and if so, were there any negative effects or any general tips and tricks? Thanks.
