Either Briggs or Tecumseh would work, but--you must get the same crankshaft length where the pulleys are. A 5 h.p. would do for that job. Lots of used engines available, i would think! Maybe somebody here will have what you need.
I have a 5-6 h.p. snow thrower, sears model. Electric start. all the bells and whistles! Not self propelled, not good for slanted or gravel driveway--is auger propelled-the auger pulls it along--works good on level drives. The engine has lots of power, so i think any Briggs or tec. would work on it. Check with the local repair shops--they might have good used engines for sale!

I wouldn't put any less than a 6HP on that. I used to own one of those machines. It could have used more power than it came with stock. Ariens themselves started putting 7HP motors on these models later in the production.

It's probably mid-late '60s vintage.

Thank you for responding, if anyone needs the H60-75003D 6 hp Tec. or parts from it let me know,( it appears to have excessive play in the crankshaft bushings), i think i will try a larger briggs intek snow engine, with the 3/4" X 2 5/16 " shaft. Joseph37

The carbs and electric starters from these things are usually in demand in the winter.

Is this axial or radial play?

Radial, i guess it should be a few thousands, but its probaly 1/16" .

I have a 1970 and the 5-7 hp are the same. A B&S Intek Snow 7.5 fits right on, but you have to reroute the chute crank if you use an OHV engine (including Tecumseh). If the mounting is a steel stamping, you also have to cut off and drill out the old mounting bolts and put in longer ones. They have great power. Less than $300, delivered. You can also buy 8 or 8.5hp Tecumsehs for about the same price, but I don't remember if the mountup is the same - you can look at the line drawings.

Some people are even buying the Honda clone 6.5hp engines if they keep it inside or don't live where it's too cold. They run around $150 delivered.

You can sell your old engine on eBay for $40 to $125, usually.
