Help With Identification of a Berry Bush

I've had a berry bush in the back yard since I moved in to my current home. I've just now got the interest to find out what it is and if I can eat it! I was looking at it today and while I was doing that my dogs were eating some of the leaves and berries from what I saw.

So here are some pictures. Mature berries, the flower, the branchs, the leaves and some immature berries.

Oh yeah! Absolutely good to eat. Wait until they're plump and red. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to pick them out on the edge of the field and make pies. Even ripe, they are slightly tart. Delicious!

Did you save your lovely old rose from the backhoe? If it's flowering so well and is healthy why on earth destroy it? As the others say, it could easily be tidied up and pruned back into shape - easier to work with a robust rose that's obviously thriving in your climate with little care, than start again with something new that you may have to labour over...(Sorry, just my opinion).... Yes it looks as if it may be a rugosa or something with a bit of rugosa in it; I didn't know Hansa grew that big but others would know better. Does it smell sort of warm/clove-like? If it is H. you have yourself a very good rose that will be easy to care for in the future, once you've got it back under control. And there should be gorgeous big decorative hips in Autumn (Fall), from which you can make all sorts of wondrous old-time things like Rosehip Jelly and Tea. That's after you've finished bottling up the Rosepetal Jam, of course! :-D Seriously, you have to watch these men with their machines, they have to be spoken to very firmly, in my experience. I once had a neighbour who offered to come round to my place with his chainsaw and cut everything - trees, shrubs, everything - down to four foot high. He said it would look much neater. Honestly, they have no idea at all! (No offence to all the lovely sensitive blokes out there) LOL :-)

Sorry about the bad links. I had crossed posted on another site before I remembered about this site and got the right answer. Thank you all anyways. For your curiosity it was a Lantana (Lantana camara ) A weed, lol. Thank you all anyway.

What! Lantana's a weed?!!!

Just kidding, I know it's a "weed" but don't all all the people who pay good $ for it. Yes, I have myself. That color grows right down the road from me in the ditch, but I bought the purple one.

I'm not saying I don't believe you because I know anything's possible, and no offense is intended, but I can't believe your dogs were willingly eating lantana.

I know it's considered a weed in coastal areas of the southeastern US. Beaches in South Carolina, for example, are infested with it. Sounds like Florida too, if it's growing in a ditch. A nice garden plant in more northern areas.

To garden2garden: Well it sure looked like the dogs were eating it. But they may have just been playing with it. Who knows, they do like eating/chewing on wood, twigs, and branches. Silly dogs, gotta love 'em.

To bboy: Wow you found the other site, I am impressed. Wonder how you did it. ^_^ Bet you used Google; it's easy to find anything or anyone with that.

" WARNING: Pets have reportedly become ill after ingesting lantana. The unripe berries are known to be very toxic and the foliage toxic to livestock. Lantana is listed as a Category I invasive exotic species by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council, which means that it is known to be "invading and disrupting native plant communities in Florida." Lantana is also invading natural areas in Texas and is a huge problem in Hawaii. "
