When I did use peat moss I found that really hot water, not necessarily boiling but very hot, was needed to wet that stuff, while it was still in the bag. Once in your soil or a container that material can be very difficult to wet since the water cannot stay in place long enough.
If it is possible you might want to put your container into something larger which you will then fill with water and let that sit for a minimum of 24 hours to see if the peat moss will absorb enough water to be wet throughout.

Wow, I will have to turn the pot into a wheel barrel and soak it in there. It is a 22" diameter pot and I don't have anything large enough to put it into. Okay, that is the solution than. Thanks for the help! :-)

If you can put the peat soil mixture in a heavy black plastic garbage bag with significant water and seal it up pretty tight and sit it in full sun for a few days it will usually moisten up. Starting with hot water, as kimmsr suggests will speed the process somewhat.

Peat moss needs to be premoistened before using it in containers it. I usually fill about half a wheelbarrow, add whatever I'm mixing it with (compost, pine bark fines, chicken grit, vermiculite, whatever). Get the hose with some sort of misting attachment, wet the top, turn once or twice, mist again, walk away, pull some weeds, come back mist, turn, drink a beer, mist turn and its usually gtg in 10-30 min.

There are two things that might help. Try mixing a little sugar into the water next time you water the pot. Sugar is a natural wetting agent that is actually not a problem for the soil microbes. There are other wetting agents that are. Start with a quarter cup of sugar per gallon and see how that works. Molasses should work, too. Once you get the peatmoss accepting water, you might be able to back off on the sugar.

The second idea is soap. It is a wetting agent that is not much of a problem for the soil microbes. I like the Wal-mart brand of baby shampoo. It has no conditioners in it and should do very little harm. You only need a few drops to 'wet' the water and reduce the surface tension.

Thanks for all the additional ideas. I will try the molasses, since I have some I need to use up. I hope it works so I don't have to empty the pot and wait 2 days to plant my peas. I already had my peas soaking and they have to be planted today. I was going to do them in cell packs, but I will wait to see what effect the Molasses and water has.

A household sponge repels water until it gets wet. Then it readily absorbs all the water it can hold. You might need to be a little patient with this.
