Hey Terryjean! Thanks for your kind words. You are sweet especially in light of the fact that I somehow uploaded them twice and made a total mess of it. Here is a better link but in a few minutes hopefully both of my slideshows will be functional.

I did not have any info on the graves themselves. I would love to learn more however.

That is a fabulous slide show. Thank you for taking the time to upload all of those photos. All the gravesite detail fascinates me too. Anita has mentioned a book which describes the symbolism on the headstones. It is on my "to read list". The cemetery does tours thruout the year and they highlight different aspects of the cemetery. The first time I went to open garden I toured a large part of the cemetery including the native plant section and the perennial plant garden in Hamilton square. I then came back the next week with my friend and her husband and we toured the cemetery with the intent of looking at the historical aspects of the burials.
Now I'm so rose-centric that I forget to go appreciate the other aspects of the cemetery. Thanks for the reminder!

Kate, I just love your photos. Thanks so much for posting them! I usually am a picture-taker, but things are too hectic during the Open Garden weekend, and I never get a single one.

How neat that you started with our kiosk! One of our rose volunteers, Liz (she was working the sales table) worked and worked and WORKED to make it beautiful, and it is. I also love that you got pix of our fence and its roses. That's been one of my pet projects, and it had never occurred to me to go outside and take photos. I'm usually just focused on making sure there are no canes hanging down that will snag passersby! I also really appreciated the photos throughout the garden.

The symbol books is Stories in Stone, by Douglas Keister. However, our own Celeste has done a lot of posting about them, and there's more info on line. I'm particularly touched by the broken rosebuds, that mean that a young child's life has been cut short.

Do you happen to know the ID of the rose in pics 33 - 38? I have it and would love to find out. It was given to me by a rose-rustling friend who took cuttings at a cemetery.

Thanks Kate, I would love to find out. It is very fragrant, a fast grower and beautiful. It only blooms once a year, but it's worth waiting for. :o)

Kate, you took so many amazing pictures. I did not stray much out of the rose garden area, so it is nice to see what the rest of the cemetery looks like. I will have to spend the entire day there next time I visit. Thanks so much for taking and posting these pictures.

What am I doing wrong? I tried yesterday, and I've just tried again today, but I can't seem to make the slide show work for me. I can see the row of small pics at the bottom of the black screen, and the first pic comes up larger above, then disappears, but none of the others do that. I can see the selection frame moving down the line from one pic to the next, etc., but those never come up larger. I'm sure the fault must be mine, as I never seem to have any luck with slide shows - this one I really want to see, though, so would appreciate any helpful directions for running it...

Wow Kate, that's quite a show! You took some wonderful pics, that was like being there, almost. Thanks for taking all of those and being so nice to post those in such a format. It didn't even enter my mind to do a slideshow. Some day I hope to make it to an event, it'd be nice to share it with you. All the roses and iris are beautiful and the cemetary shots are very tastefully and thoughtfully set up. Thanks so much for sharing.

Oh Laura, try one of the arrow buttons to the side of the pics or just above the small pics at the bottom like a DVD player, it could be set at pause or something. Try the one to the left to make it move forward, put your mouse over it and press it. It's a thought.

Thanks Joanne and Les. I think the photos I took were fun because I was so excited and happy to be there. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning:-) I'm very happy you enjoyed them.

Laura I had a couple of thoughts. Sometimes the browser Mozilla doesn't run simple programs correctly so are you using Internet Explorer? If not try that. Also I use Mozilla (aka Firefox) and have a script killer program on it that prevents things like java starting automatically. It also won't let me run the slideshow so again I view it in IE. Hope that is of some help.

Kate - Thanks, I think Mozilla is the problem. I don't have Firefox, but I have Safari. AOL is my ISP, but their browser is not very good, so I always use my Safari browser, as it works SO much better. But I have had problems every time I try to look at a slide show, and I think you've given me the answer.
Anyway, I did manage to see small enlargements of some of the pix, and it looked as though you have some really good shots. Next time I'm at the library, I'll see if I can access the whole thing - it's a lot speedier there, too.

I can't readily ID that lovely pink rose. We have quite a few that look like that! Some are hybrid chinas or hybrid bourbons.

People think that I really know my roses, but often I can tell one from another only by the location in the garden! I DO know the garden pretty well by heart. I mentally walk the aisles instead of counting sheep.
