Excellent firewood, comparable to White oak or Hickory. Splitting is easy, if you're not trying to split a crotch. I do it every year with an axe, a maul and wedges. If the trunk is clear, maybe you could get some lumber for small projects - quartersawn is best.

I second the sea myrtle I.D. Difficult to get a sense of size on the first, but it reminds me of a podocarpus seedling. That's a very common landscaping plant in my area and I find seedlings often, brought by birds, who eat the fruit. Maybe look around & see if you spot anything that looks similar in neighboring areas....

Thank you, I thought it was Nyssa, Black Gum, but the leaves on these are so much more pointed than what I think of Black Gum. But it could be a local variation, much like all the weird oak leaves I see around here.
