Well..I doubt that plans will be available (he's not really a plans kind of guy) and the photo will have to come later too. he has built it in pieces in his shop (it's set up there but not quite done) and since we had a FOOT of snow yesterday our plans for putting it in the yard (i.e. digging it's spot because our back yard is pretty sloped) are put on hold. Believe me though I will have photos when I can. I just wanted to see if there were any suggestions..since I'm in zone 4 etc..

I'm getting way ahead of myself i know but I'm even wondering about heating it through the winter. I read here about using a wood stove for heating; can anyone elaborate on that?

Sounds Great!! Up here in MN you are sposed to have the gh's facing E W. Not north south. Just fyi. How big is your gh going to be?

That's just the kind of info i was looking for..so the long way east/west? (if it's 8x10 then the 10 foot side should face that way?)

He's going to try and take some photos of it in the shop today and I'll post later. I am also wondering about the interior. Are there things any of you wish you had done differently inside, as far as storage? or walkway clearance? i.e. do you wish you had more space to move around or would you cram more shelving in? any thoughts?

the long way should run east to west. The doors facing east to west. If its 8x10 I would say do what you can to get the most growing space possible. You will want it bigger. Make sure to have adequate ventilation too. You wouldn't think you would need it a whole lot here but even on 40 degree days it can easily get to 60 some in the greenhouse and when its 50 out and sunny 70+ degrees. As for storage, I would store things under shelves so you leave the shelves open for as many plants as you can fit in there. Maybe some hanging basket brackets or something so they don't take up shelf space too. Air flow too get a fan. Air flow makes plants move with in turn creates a stronger plant. I would think a wood heater would work fine although you might want to look into keeping it outside instead of in so you won't waste space on that too. So many things to think about and so little time, lol. I look forward to seeing pics of it.

It really looks wonderful!! And your yard is amazing!! They all were great pics. Can I make one suggestion? Make sure theres room to add on, lol. You will want it bigger. Also maybe he can make you a small added on room in the back for a potting bench? I would hate to waste space on somewhere to plant stuff. It really looks nice though!!! You are very lucky. I have a 22x40 and I am looking for room to add on, lol. They sure fill up fast.
One more thing...how are you anchoring it to the ground?

22x40!! I may be able to convince him to add on someday but I never expected to have a greenhouse at all so I'm trying not to be greedy. I do also have a nice coldframe that will come off the back. I'm not sure if you could tell but in the photos of our yard (I think the 3rd one) it is very sloped. We live on the river bluff and it's very hilly. In the yard photos the grenhouse will go behind the green birdbath.

How do you use your greenhouse? what do you grow and at what time of year?

Absolutely stunning yard, you deserve a new greenhouse. I was going to comment on the yard earlier but I wasn't sure if it was yours or the botanical gardens!

Thanks Julie...I of course love hearing compliments on the yard & gardens that's one of the things that makes it all worthwhile. I love looking at those green photos when all I
can see is white outside.

I also need to make a correction the green house is actually
8x12 (not 8x10 as I said earlier) so that's a little bigger..

I use the gh for propagation. So mainly March thru May/June. Mainly heirloom plants.
How are you planning on anchoring your gh?
That is amazing how you can just take it apart to move it. That is very clever. Ya this snow sure puts a damper on things here. LOL, everyone keeps saying its my fault. This last weekend on Sunday before the snow we were putting on the poly on the gh. We are working on it again this weekend. I hope to have it done this weekend I need to get things in there. I have 2 rooms full of plants under lights here.
Hot tub heat would be a great idea. Water retains heat fairly well and when the sun beats down on it, it gets hot too and can heat the gh for you. Your husband sure is a clever fella.
