Is there ANY rose that doesn't get Blackspot?
Comments (53)Unfortunately not only Kordes but Tantau and Meilland also use the same name for different roses, so I doubt that they will give up. I do not know the reason, I can just speculate. Maybe they trademark the name, so nobody else can come up with a new "Valencia", Iceberg, or Princess de Monaco - only Kordes or in the later case Meilland. It is frustrating and sometimes it is difficult to sort out which rose named the same way has or has not any difference from a previous one. On the other hand, it is strange that Kordes named his new climber Aloha a name already used for another climber with entirely different color. I didn't have any 'breaking dormancy or other problem with roses from Palatine. None were Âpuny but were huge; the largest bare roots I have ever received. I will be forced to order from Hortico if Pickering will not incorporate in their coming new, one hundred roses next year  I am craving for a few of newer Tantau roses. I am sorry to say that today I noticed more spots on Caramella. Probably not blackspot, it looks like anthracnose judging from the grayish tan 'hole' in the middle of the spots. Or maybe both - in this coastal inferno all bets are off. This Caramella is positively a flori or a shrub, not a HT  it throws out sprays 3-5 buds on the yip of the canes, blooms in cluster. Caramel Antike, on the other hand, is a HT. I am told that it is the newest craze in the florist market in Europe. Please describe the difference, if you can, between the old Caramella and the new one....See MoreAre pulldown kitchen faucets sturdy? If so which one
Comments (15)The most important thing about pull out faucets are the washers. More expensive models have ceramic washers which keep water from leaking at the joints on the faucet. A good quality faucet will last 10 years without replacement. It is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. I've had bad experiences with both Moen and Delta and of course I'll admit I was saving money by using them. They do not use ceramic washers, at least the models we used didn't. So, look carefully at the product and compare carefully whatever you are choosing. After spending so much on your kitchen, spending a few hundred dollars more for something that you use multiple times a day, is an investment that's worth it....See MoreSingle rose bushes or multiples of the same?
Comments (22)Blue Mountain Girl, I would love to see photos of your yard in bloom! It sounds stunning!!! Roses ICO, it is challenging to live in zone 4, but we have such amazing weather 6 months out of the year, that it helps put up with the cold stuff. You learn to work around it. Like I wanted to get State of Grace for my rose out front, but I didn’t want to try and keep a zone 6 rose going in a barely zone 4 garden. It’s a BEAUTY, and I completely understand how you got 4 of them. I wanted Soul Sister in the worst way, but declined for the same reason… too whimpy for my zone. I read that Distant Drums was an excellent rose for heat and cold and I loved the color, so he became my rose of choice for the planting. I have never had Doc Huey sprout canes (he’s not a bad looking rose).. My poor grafts are buried so deep that they don’t have a chance of sprouting, although this time I’m gonna do 3 inches with Distant DRums instead of 4. I think it was just a little too deep for that plant. DD is too busy blooming it’s heart out. He doesn’t have the energy to grow long canes everywhere before he blasts out blossoms. I measured the temps up next to the house yesterday beside DD with an oven thermometer. The temp said 140 degrees F!! Not a bud was drooping, except the rose on the end which is surrounded by concrete. I put up a shade cloth to cool it down. I have been lightly watering them every other day with water overhead. One more day of high 80’s and then we start to cool down a bit. It’s gonna be a challenge planting bare root roses in that heat.. That’s part of what makes it fun! The others you might have to order online but it's getting late in the season for shipping so place your order soon. To figure out where to order online use https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.65521.3 I grow mostly Kordes roses and they seem to be heat tolerant and disease resistant in my zone 7 a Maryland garden. David Austin also has some roses that are heat tolerant and get tall. You can find some at Lowe's or local garden centers or order directly from David Austin USA If you request their catalog there is a section with a list of the heat and humidity tolerant roses. I grow Lady of Shallot, Olivia Rose Austin and Munstead Wood. https://www.davidaustinroses.com/us/catalog-request...See MoreUser
