Jeri, thank you so much for making this catalog easy to access, my ownly challenge will be buying only roses I have room for (1) instead of those I fiercely desire (nearly all of them). -again thank you for all you do for old roses, and for those of us who love them. Luxrosa my thanks also to Cass B. who propagated the lost and found Tea rose. I hope to rise early enough to purchase one of the plants.

Yes, Robin Gig Harbor. This is from the Old Gig Harbor Cemetery right down the street from Raft Island Roses. LOL ~ I was coming back from buying roses there of course when I stopped at the cemetery on the way home. (I won't tell you what I bought on the antique rose forum, OK, I bought 'Midnight Blue,' I have a perfect spot for it.) I spent a really long time there just looking. Everything was blooming and I had soooo much fun. It is so great to see the roses in person and to be able to smell them too. They have a lot of antiques and Austins. My faves for the day were Chianti (GORGEOUS!) and The Squire. Thanks for the ID everyone. Please forgive me about my ignorance, I am still learning about roses! I didn't know that thornless meant it could still have thorns.

We tried the venetian blinds for our hang ties. It was a pain hand-scribing the info, instead of printing it out, and the blinds are a bit sharp. They certainly last well, however. I've seen longer pieces of blind just stuck into the ground to identify planted roses. That would never work in the cemetery because we have too many different people digging, weeding, and being generally careless. Maybe the blinds stuck in the propagation pots would work better than the tags or popsicle sticks. I've also thought about sticking labels onto the pots themselves. The problem with the little plastic tags is that they fall out so easily if I'm removing dead leaves from the cuttings, or tipping a plant out of the pot to see how the roots are developing. I have three found roses from a rustle a couple of years ago, and three loose tags. The roses look identical. If they all prove to be the same when they bloom, I guess it doesn't matter which is which, but it's so frustrating - and there's no one to blame but me! Anita

Hi everyone, well, I DID get to Williamsburg, Va to see that champion Comptons oak and the many Live oaks they had there, BUT, my question is kinda stupid perhaps. I have a volunteer Yew seedling that a bird has sown in a very bad place for it to grow, BUT, I will NOT be digging it up, since I am sure doing so would mess with it and stop any progress of growth it would have now as it is. My question is that since it is a seed sown tree seedling, is it going to be a PURE Yew now? Meaning, is it NOT a "special" type of Yew? It SHOULD be a tree Yew or a Baccatta, right? Don't the special forms have to be grafted or specially primped to be that "fancy" form of Yew? If it will be that tree form Baccatta I will go out of my way to make where it is a place where it can flourish. I will have to move some things BUT I will do it, sadly, it is near a bird sown Sassafras seedling also. I'll have to cull 1 of the 2 trees:( Where the 2 tree seedlings are there are White pine roots, so, digging and replanting 1 of the seedlings isn't going to work out for me. I am not in shape to go busting my hump like that. I WILL move the other things that I can move though for 1 of the seedlings. BTW, I have yet to plant any trees at my dad;s gravesight, BUT, I do want to, I just am NOT sure I CAN do it legally, there IS a graveyard that I am pretty sure I COULD plant a tree at BUT I know nobody buried there. It's a very OLD cemetary in town here, they have a very huge Shingle oak tree there. Well, when I say OLD, I mean OLD for US cemetaries, I know in the UK OLD means REALLY OLD. Also other parts of Europe have REALLY OLD cemetaries.
