Hey home owners. Hire a Pro. We make it sound easy because we've done it a hundred times and we have all the right tools. There are a lot a variables that cause the gears to wear out. If you hire a pro they can fix the opener and make sure everything else is working properly so you get the longest life out of your new gear. Homeowners are always having problems with the openers after they try to fix them because the main gear drive may just be a symtom of a problem and not the main problem. A lot of times a mom and pop type door guy is your best bet because they deal with service more, not just new construction so they see these problems every day. Know you limits when it comes to DIY.

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the rpm sensor is plugged in. If none of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and try it.

No, nothing new add to my home or garage. The led does blink randomly it has never blinked rapidly or in a set pattern. I perfmormed my experiment again, and found that most of the time the remote opener worked all day long opening and closing but by a certain time at night it stops working. Today is Saturday and as usual it won't work on the weekends. To try to isolate the problem and make sure there wasn't any weird interference problems from the other remote or the keypad I removed the batteries in both of those. So for about a week now there is only the one working remote. No change. Again, it usaully works during the day but never at night or weekends. Any possible cause I or anyone else can think of does not explain why it works and doesn't work at specific times. I've had this problem for 3 months now and I am ready to just buy new. I just want a functioning garage door!!! My biggest concern is what if I buy a new one and whatever the interference is it affects the new one? Also, I've seen a lot of post re: craftsman 1/2hp gdo, should I stay away from this brand.

Hello, after digging around on the web a lot more I discovered that the number I was using was the part no. for the circuit board. Then I was able to find a manual and download it. It didn't say what the blinking lights mean. But it did echo your warning to keep my hands off of the button. I unplugged the opener for a couple hours and then plugged it back in. The lights didn't come on when I did this. I thought they might come on for 4 1/2 minutes as the manual suggested. No Luck there. We have been having a heat wave, up in the 90's. But that is nothing unusual here in Florida. Are there any tests I can do to determine if the RPM sensor circuit board is bad? Or if the motor is burnt out? Is there a manual reset to use if all else fails? Thanks for the advice.
