Questions for cold frame construction

I'm planning on making a 9x3x1 foot cold frame for my over-flow plants. I'm trying to figure out an alternative to using the expensive PVC snap clamps to attach the polyethylene sheeting to the PVC pipes.

I was planning on a 4-mil sheeting, with 3/4 pipes, not all of them glued so I can take it down and store it when the temps get too hot. I have a solar vent system.

If I fold over the edges of the plastic sheeting multi times and use a self-tapping screw with a rubber washer, would this help prevent the sheeting from tearing? How far apart would the screws need to be?

Would duct tape hold for just the 2 months I would be using this? (I know it would hold for "long" -- but how long is "long?")

I know nothing really sticks to polyethylene, but I really don't like those snap clamp prices...
