A few pics of the finished HFGH

Thanks to all on this board who helped me along the way. Shade cloth is on order. I got a 12x16 so it will come down the sides a bit. Heater is working well. I ran gas from the house along with electricity and water. 42 outside today but 65 inside with no sun and cold drizzle. Ordered Mister Landscaper kit from Lowes yet was dssapointed. Heads dont mist they sprinkle? That's what i get for 30.00 I guess. I may keep it to water pots. Seedlings are emerging and Elephant Ears are waking up. I have really enjoyed it so far. I need to build shelves along the walls to put potted plants, stereo, and junk on. Green shelves came from LOwes.... for $5.00 they were going to toss them! Wooden rack came from Walmart. They throw them out when bulbs sale down! Temps get hot fast on sunny days! HOping shade cloth will help. May add intake vent this week per members advice. I insulated my north wall with some of that polyisocyanurate foam sheathing...foil faced. I have read that most of the heat is lost through the roof, but I started with the north wall since I didn't get much light through it anyway (close to our house) and I figured any improvement in holding in heat was worth doing...and I'd deal with the roof later. It's permanent and stays up all year. Some folks have insulated the bottom half of the north roof too, and I may do that this year (I now know I have TONS of light in there so I'm no longer worried about adding a bit more opaque material.) The polyisocyanurate foam insulation I bought (from Lowes) is foil on one side and had big ugly blue and white lettering on the other side. I did not want that ugliness showing on the outside of the greenhouse (like you) so I just rolled on a coat of flat white paint over the advertising, and now the north wall looks white from outside the GH. (The foil side should not be painted.) I have pics of how I installed it about 1/3 of the way down this page, if it helps. You're in a bit cooler climate than I am, but I had also considered blocking off the peak in the winter to reduce heat needs. After going through my first winter, I've abandoned that idea, because (here) it would get way too hot on sunny winter days to do that. I need to have that extra room for hot air to gather up there, and I also need to be able to let my exhaust fan run on the sunny days. Your mileage may vary, though! I may also add bubble wrap to the whole interior roof for next winter...I think the roof is probably the place I'm losing the most heat, now that I have the gaps all sealed and the north wall insulated. I am totally clueless about misting set ups!

Cindy: AB-SO-LUTE-LY loved your pictures. I am now officially jealous! ;) Our little GH is only 11X11 with a pond inside that takes up about 1/2 of that. So, there's room for the plants (it's tight) but no real room to have a chair and table. I too am a sufferer of Seasonal Affective Disorder, although, I think up here it's called something else, but it's the same. I have been using Full Spectrum lights for years and they really do help. But like you, when I'm really feeling the effects of the winter, even without a seat, it's unbelievable how going out to the GH and taking in the plants and flowers, really make one feel much better. I don't even want to get into the heater thing! LOL I've been rather *cough* LAZY this year and have not completed all of the insulating that I have to do. I even forgot a few things that need to be done. So I check the temps the other day and almost paniced when the temps where down to 7C (45F)! The one little heater, which usually has no problem keep above that temp, just wasn't doing it. So, I put another heater out in the GH and set it to only come on if temps drop. So last night, I went out to check on it and accidentally found out why the GH seems colder than it should be. While standing there, picking up the heater, I got a freezing cold breeze over my legs! The wind was blowing and coming in under the bottom of the door! I FORGOT TO PUT THE RUBBER STOPPER DOWN! hehehehee oh god, it ain't easy being blond! LOL Needless to say, this weekend we'll be doing the last little bits. Anyway, enjoy your nice GH and please, have a coffee or whatever beverage for me in your GH! :) Oh yeah, and please don't be afraid to post more pix throughout the winter. Perhaps we sufferers can all enjoy each others' havens. :)

Love all of these Bathroom photos! Thanks for posting! I'm in the middle of planning 4 bathrooms myself. I think Ann Kathryn is correct about why people don't post. After all of your planning and hard work, it's difficult when people are less enthusiastic about your project, even when you know every single flaw yourself! Posters need to be mindful of individual taste and geographical location. Certain remodels may not suit everyone's style, but that's why there's chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. My Mother used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!"

Thanks, everyone! I love sharing this stuff with you. Have you designed a project for a larger hooked rug yet? With your new frame how large of a rug can you create? One of my first hooked projects 20+ years ago was a small rug I designed. Then later I bought a pattern that appealed to me and hooked that. I think both still need to be bound and finished (procrastinating about this step is a problem common to many rug hookers). Currently, the two projects I have lined up are a chair seat (I have five but need one more) and a new cover for my footstool. My new frame (which should arrive in less than two weeks) is the same size as my old one, but both can accommodate any size project, as you just lift the rug up and move it to work on different sections. Here's a story for you: Last night I was trying to come up with a design idea for the hooked chair seat. I looked through one of my books on rug hooking, and got nowhere with that. Then I reached for a book on folk art, thinking as I did so that it had been years since I'd opened it. Inside the front cover I found cut-out patterns my daughter Jill and I had drawn for a quilted table runner I made years ago. I didn't use the horse she drew at the time, but there it was, a perfect size for the chair seat. I feel that I was guided to open that book. Here's a picture of the pattern I drew on the linen burlap last night. I'll do some sort of design in the outer border. Now all I have to do is pick which wools I'm going to use. It's like coloring. :-)

Table holds junk right now. It amazes me how fast seedling are sprouting and dormant plants are waking up!
I have over 25 varieties of tomatoes sown! Who wants plants???? I have stuff started I KNOW I Will never get out!!!!!!! Gotta do something till spring!

Here is my exhaust fan from Lowes... IT came prewired with thermostat. We will see how it holds up. SMall fan from Walmart for $8.00. The oscillating portion already gave out. I guess you get what you pay for. It keeps the heat out of the peak and moved around. My HFGH auto vent above the heater would open on chilly nights due to the buildup of heat in the peak.

Nice pics, good job, wow you have alot of plantings already... my wife already has some nice tomato plants from seed and is thrilled with the HFGH...

I ran natural gas from my house.... it was a pain. I had to trench with a ditch witch and the gas company helped me make the connection. (I used to date the service guys daughter in high school) IT was the best decision so far. No propane refills to deal with. The heater is working great and keeps temps in the 50's on cold nights on the lowest setting. Usually just the pilot light burns. I will remove the heater in a few weeks when temps warm up. IT will save wear and tear on the heater and give me more room and I won't have to keep the pilot lit burning fuel. The people at DESA heaters were great to deal with and they were right her in BOwling Green Ky. I bought a model from Wal Mart cheap but it had no thermostat. I called them directly and they helpled my pick just the right heater. Its 20k radiant and themal mix. So far so good.

Those are some great photos, and what a wonderful job you have done.
I finally built my greenhouse, but had to remove it to start my home building, and when I build the greenhouse again, I will do what everyone says to do, MAKE IT BIG!
I built mine WAY bigger than what I had intended, but still could use a bigger one.

Anyway, I enjoyed your pictures, so keep them coming.
