craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener

i am having gdo problems!! my garage door reverses without being hooked up to the door. both sensors are powered up one has a steady green light the other is amber and it appears that they are aligned and wired correctly i don't want to throw parts at it, the trouble shooting that i have seen points to the sensors is there a way to trouble shoot the sensors themslves? my original problem was the white drive gear was broken i replaced it and now i have this and sears wants 70 bucks just to come out plus parts please help

Check out these tips.

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

well i have adjusted the collar both directions with out any change when the motor turns there does appear to be movement back and forth on the rotator cup

chicat2001 - You will find a button (smart/learn) just to the left of where all those white wires go. Press and hold it for 6 seconds. This will erase the memory in the opener and your remote should no longer work. Now press and hold the large button on your remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Your unit is now reprogrammed. jbenford - Check for a broken spring on your door or remove the cover of the opener and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor.

If it is stuck in the open position you will most likely find the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You will need to loosen the chain enough to release the tension and then run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Hi everyone, I know i sound like a tape recorder but my craftsman 1/2 hp has been working fine for 3 yrs. Not sure what happened to the remotes, but they stopped working. I first tried replacing the batteries but after that didnt work i went out and brought two brand new up to date chamberlain klik3u universal garage remotes. Retail 40 bucks per. They say in the manual they are compatible to my garage opener which was manufactured in 1997. They wont program as well. My garage opens and closes fine. I guess im here to find out if anyone has any other trouble shooting facts to program because the "press the red button like a door bell, hit the button you want programmed" basics isnt working for me. I called chamberlain about the remotes and they basically told me go jump in a lake, all our remotes program fast and easy!!! I need help ppl. Plzzzzz

I have a Craftsman GDO #139.53674SRT2 recently it quit working. Neither of the 3 remotes work, or the wired wall button. When I press any of the transmitters or wall button the unit makes a click and then the orange light on the unit blinks 5 times, the light doesn't come on. The light does not come on when the beam is broken on the photocell eyes either. What do you think the problem is? I have checked the alignment of the photocell eyes and replaced the wired wall button, no luck, any advice?

My craftsman 139.53674SRT2 displays the left amber light blinking 5 times, goes off for a few seconds, and then blinks 5 times. The weather around here is really cold, and the door wouldn't open easily. It only wants to only close, and not open. The motor hums for a few seconds - nothing moves when we try to open the door. Can anyone tell me what a blinking amber light means when it blinks 5 times and then rests, and starts blinking 5 times again?

today i called 1-800-528-5236. This is the number of the technical service representative at the manufacturer. they helped me thru various problems first my collar wasn't far enough back in which don told me to move it back , i thought i had it far enough back but i was WRONG!!!! no problem i had to unplug my rpm sensor remove it and clean it then i had to unplug the logic board then hooked it all back up and repeat this 3 or 4 times then it started to work i did all of this with the chain drive removed from the motor my opener is back in service
